I worked at an amusement park. One day there was a terrible earthquake. The entire park was leveled to the ground. The only thing left standing were those milk bottles.
Another thing I noticed that you didn’t see/mention: the standard three point shot that most people are used to is a high school distance. That is measured at 19 ft 9 inches. The NBA three point is 23 ft 9 inches. So having a carnival shot at 28 ft is approaching half court. It’s VERY difficult for most people to make. Just something I noticed. Great vid!
The sad part is that they charge like 3-5 bucks per play and the prizes they give out are worth pennies usually. They don't have to make it impossible. One carnival I went to had balloons on a wall with prizes in them and you threw darts. It was very easy to hit the balloons, in fact it was almost impossible to miss them. Yea most of the balloons just had small prizes on them, but at least that one felt fair.
Yeah the thing is they would still make money even if they didn't rig games because of the mathematical probability. But greed makes them dwindle the customer's chances to almost zero.
@Lonks Lonkolious The rides are always the best part! I don't know if they over charge those but if they do it's well worth it anyways. I used to brag all the time when I was little about riding all the rides in one day, there was a surprising amount and most kids my age were scared to death of riding them.
I shot out the star, slowly cutting out a circle. After 3 guys inspected my paper one yelled "we got a Rambo here!" and all the men lined up to try their hand at it. Got a giant stuffed Vulture holding a heart. It was a massive victory!
I’ve seen a guy walk up the ladder standing on two legs (we thought he was David Blaine) so what this guy says about thinking of it as a tightrope really checks out.
Mark, you are hilarious, full of science, a great entertainer, and maybe the best science KZclipr around. Except maybe Physics Girl. She's not hilarious but she does Great Physics! Thank you, Mark. Bring back the squirrels!
My favourite part was his wife’s/ partner’s reaction. When I got married (at 30)and my husband (29) bought me a stuffed toy, my reaction was the exact same as Mark’s wife 😂
Important to keep in mind the reason the prizes are so cheap for them is cause they buy in large volumes. If you were to just buy one it would cost you a lot more.
When he makes the comparison about how much you pay to play (and win) vs. buying it from Amazon, the numbers are pretty close. But most people like the concept of 'winning' something no matter how much it ultimately costs. "The thrill of the win" :)
This guy should straight up teach physics for all the poor hs kids who are stuck at home getting a terrible online education rn. He’s definitely better than the physics teacher I had
One line from that article about the guy who lost all his money on games stood out to me, considering the serious tone of the article: "Gribbohm, who managed to win a stuffed banana with dreadlocks before dropping $2,600....."
You are amazing at explaining things. Even words I didn’t know I felt like with your sentence structure I didn’t have to rewind to understand something. 👌
If a normal dinner night at his house is anything like that last little bit, then I could watch a whole show of just him and his family having dinner cause that was easily the best part of this whole video.
As a winning strategy for that rope bridge, I'd say hug the bridge while trying your best to keep your center of balance in that line and if you fail, just make sure your legs are also holoding on to the steps I'd say.
I've worked at a swimming pool that had one of those rope ladders crossing the water with two mounting points fire the ladder. I crossed by keeping my entire body on the ladder, keeping my center of mass low and moving slowly. It wasn't easy, but I did it. A year prior, I learned from someone how to cross a single rope by keeping center of mass below the rope (rope from collarbone to groin to ankle with knees and elbows below the rope).
The ladder one, I actually won it, not because I kept my centre of balance perfectly in a line becauseI clung on very hard onto the rope in a clutch grab when I fell. I won a Lucario plushie and I am a huge Pokémon fan. I can only be insane at things if I’m motivated.
So really we have a whole bunch of people who can't understand when a person is being sarcastic. One more time everyone Bigboy Chungus was making a joke here!!!!!
I actually won the basketball one in my third shot and first try! I was so happy and bragged a bit just because i already knew most of these are just scams 🤣
I remember reading somewhere that they will have some employees walk around with armfuls of those giant prizes or push them in a cart or something to make everybody else believe that it is possible to win those things on a regular basis.
The Parthenon, ancient Greek architecture, is a popular tourist attraction. My Ancient Art History professor said there are signs asking people to not take the marble chips and pieces on the ground. Of course, they do. Some one has the job of going around replenishing the stone pieces on the ground.
I managed to get across the ladder multiple times after studying how others kept failing. Basically, the first time, I purposefully flipped it and then just climbed regularly upside down. After it was concluded I had cheated, I went again and spread myself out. Again, I reached the end but had flipped in the last few rungs and my win was invalidated. So I straddled the ladder and raced the person next to me. I won and it was finally counted.
Awesome! I always knew they could rip you off. You should do a video about claw machines and arcades. Im pretty lucky with those but it would be cool to see.
The ladder climb is one of the only carnival games I ever won when it flipped near the end I just hung on and crawled upside down without touching the ground
At the PNE in Vancouver, I won one of the huge prizes at one of their "impossible" games. They had a weighted baseball that flew like a knuckleball, and you had to break plexiglass bottles. I didn't tell them before hand I was a pitcher who threw an amazing knuckleball. Needless to say after I missed my first throw and realized the pattern, things didn't go the way the carnie expected. I still have my 6 foot tall penguin to this day.
I was at a ring toss at a carnival and I asked the guy to show me that the ring fit over the top of the bottle. He told me to keep walking.... says it all really!
Lol That's What Happened To Me I Went To The Closest Carnival And Some How I Got It The First Time And Of Course They HAD To Take a Picture And Then After The Picture I Fell Into The Mud And I Was So Mad ;-;
My dad won a Giant teddy bear on the ring toss in Reno (many, many moons ago) on his first shot. I was so proud of my dad for winning the Giant Teddy Bear.
I used to work a "Jacobs Ladder" at festivals, I did it first try at a six flags in Denver. The secret is to balance your weight on one foot and the opposite hand, then when you step up to switch at same time to the opposite hand and foot.
The ladder is actually the easiest to beat, I usually tip over on the start without leaving the ladder and just keep going under it. I dont touch the ground so it counts.

@Glu3 St1ck he saying but just individual people
Wait this happened to me too. IS THIS NORMAL 🤔 😳
🤣🤣🤣 don’t doubt you one bit
If if you don't work there, or even you went there, that still true
Lmao
It's heartbreaking to know that most things you enjoyed as a kid were meant to trick you and manipulate you
capitalism is so freakin messed up. no cap.
But did you have fun memories doing it?
Then you won! 😁
(Your parents were the ones footing the bill...lol)
@Toka but atleast they gave you stuff, like presents, money, and candy. 1/2 the time you don’t get anything from carnivals
@Toka How are they meant to manipulate you?
That’s just life I guess.
I liked the kids staring in awe at this guy after he aced one of the games.
Question: What's the WORST thing that you can be? Answer: Scammed or dead.
Mark getting a professional baseball pitcher to win carnival games (related to throwing) is the definition of overkill.
Lmfaooo
*Calls baseball pitcher*
Okay, hear me out...
Yeah 😂
This guy has a friend for every specific situation
"i wanna check out this planet"
mars rover:
He’s muscle man from regular show
He always knew a guy
AGREEEEEEE
Yeahhhhh, they're celebrity cameos, not really "friends" per se.
A NASA scientist and a KZclip celebrity. He easily has many contacts. Even if he doesn't know them, who wouldn't want to make a video with him.
Another thing I noticed that you didn’t see/mention: the standard three point shot that most people are used to is a high school distance. That is measured at 19 ft 9 inches. @Dc your point is?
They never claim that it's a 3 point shot. It's called a "long shot" a 3 point shot isn't a long shot
For the ladder climb: or you can do it upside down if it’s not against the rules
The sad part is that they charge like 3-5 bucks per play and the prizes they give out are worth pennies usually. They don't have to make it impossible. You're wife's reaction was priceless! Make sure you keep that clip available the next time the carnival comes to town. 😉
Theres a great affair that you can share- when the Fair comes to YOUR TOWN!!
*your
Having the speed gun under clocked isn't "borderline fraudulent". It's straight up fraudulent and hopefully they get sued over it
They could get arrested for it. And gaming laws are strict, carry large fines and jail time
@Matthew Miller Speed guns come with a set of tuning forks to calibrate, they do not need to be sent anywhere for the process to be completed.
@Lonks Lonkolious The rides are always the best part! I don't know if they over charge those but if they do it's well worth it anyways. I used to brag all the time when I was little about riding all the rides in one day, there was a surprising amount and most kids my age were scared to death of riding them.
People tried and court rule in favor of the carnival so it's not illegal as long as you make money
@M Patrick lmao you're just mad that younger people don't want to feel scammed
I shot out the star, slowly cutting out a circle. After 3 guys inspected my paper one yelled "we got a Rambo here!" and all the men lined up to try their hand at it. Got a giant stuffed Vulture holding a heart. It was a massive victory!
I’ve seen a guy walk up the ladder standing on two legs (we thought he was David Blaine) so what this guy says about thinking of it as a tightrope really checks out.
LITERALLY HOW!?
I've seen the same thing. A friend's dad who was a Marine. It was like he was merely walking up a flight of stairs.
Mark, you are hilarious, full of science, a great entertainer, and maybe the best science KZclipr around. Except maybe Physics Girl. She's not hilarious but she does Great Physics! Thank you, Mark. Bring back the squirrels!
Physics girl is very informative if your into science. I love her videos.
i did the rope ladder with ease, not because i kept stable all throughout it, i just held on when i flipped and climbed to the top being upside down
@BubblesAndFishing so true
@Strawberri •.• rules differ at each one but in general it's not allowed
@Strawberri •.• not on this one though
Thats what i thought lol why can u just climb upside down
@Robert Gordon if its illegal but you dont get caught its not illegal
Mark rober: Any professional athlete that's amazing in one sport is really good at any other sport

@Slight Smile 3yr time control

@Alexander Hoffman I dare you to say that in Klingon!
@ianboekwegLIVE That wasn't the joke, though. You wrote "athlete", and chess players aren't athletes.
That's not a professional sport...
That awkward moment when you wanna fit in with the nerds but all your chess stories happened in jail... :/
My favourite part was his wife’s/ partner’s reaction. When I got married (at 30)and my husband (29) bought me a stuffed toy, my reaction was the exact same as Mark’s wife 😂
An interesting different take on scams. I've always wondered why these games were so difficult.
@Daniel Combs ???
I suppose you would like a participation trophy. 😆
I took a ridiculous amount of vicarious pleasure in watching him absolutely CRUSH those throwing games. ⚾💖

Didnt understand physics at all and watching him im just like woah didnt know that
He did dat
He actually was coming out with videos titled science class during this COVID
cl2239 your right
ya I can imagine the great lessons I'd come up with if I produced one 11 min lesson a month and had proper funding
I enjoy how you explain things so clearly and intelligently. Thank you.
One line from that article about the guy who lost all his money on games stood out to me, considering the serious tone of the article:

Mark: The ladder climb is near impossible
Phat Gus: ...hold my walnut
@mollie it changes back in the second one
Fat Gus was pregnant and a girl
@Alexander Craig she was renamed back to phat gus! :D
@mollie Nah, they Totally “Consented” to being called Phat Gus again 😆
to be fair he basically flew across the ladder
Marque su increíble con información sobre la ciencia y los estafadores. ¡Sigue ayudando a la gente, Bud! ¡Paz y bendiciones!
I have literally learned more than what I have learned in school(7 years) and I've only been watching you for 2 years lol
Winning carnival games is less about you getting stuff and more about an achievement. Being able to say, "I did that".
As a winning strategy for that rope bridge, I'd say hug the bridge while trying your best to keep your center of balance in that line and if you fail, just make sure your legs are also holoding on to the steps I'd say.
I have learned more science from mark in this one video than my whole school career
School shoud be ban
My science teacher uses his videos
Same
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
Same
I love these videos of yours, and this ending was hilarious 🤣❤️

Idk how many times I've watched this but this video managed to entertain me every single time
He taught me more in 11 minutes than my science teacher did in 10 months
@Desiree Chavez well aren’t you lucky
Gary Oak you must not understand how a joke works
BigboyChungus true
So really we have a whole bunch of people who can't understand when a person is being sarcastic. One more time everyone Bigboy Chungus was making a joke here!!!!!
@zorgon adsense?
Throwing darts and then picking some dirt cheap toy or candy accordingly as a kid was literally so fun
9:41 that kid's expression was priceless! 😂
It's so weird for me calling that a relatively small park when that's the size of the largest amusement park in my country 😐
@Adamant Forge who hurt you
@Oliver Mensinger Twice? Did you quit and come back?
that would make financial sense
The Parthenon, ancient Greek architecture, is a popular tourist attraction. My Ancient Art History professor said there are signs asking people to not take the marble chips and pieces on the ground. Of course, they do. Some one has the job of going around replenishing the stone pieces on the ground.
@Adamant Forge this post is about me and I don't like it lol
I managed to get across the ladder multiple times after studying how others kept failing. Basically, the first time, I purposefully flipped it and then just climbed regularly upside down. After it was concluded I had cheated, I went again and spread myself out. Again, I reached the end but had flipped in the last few rungs and my win was invalidated.

I understood more physics concepts from this video than I did 4 years in college
Awesome! I always knew they could rip you off. You should do a video about claw machines and arcades. Im pretty lucky with those but it would be cool to see.
This has taught me a lot not just about the carnival but about myself 😂
The ladder climb is one of the only carnival games I ever won when it flipped near the end I just hung on and crawled upside down without touching the ground
So true! Why do people even fall just hold on!
I was thinking about that xd
Atta boy
i cant
I’m pretty sure you’re not allowed to do that
My wife gives me same reaction on the daily. Every month or so I can make her laugh. Keep smiling my dude.
Mark has been under police protection since the release of this video, and has had to file a restraining order against 10 different clowns.
Even though they are scams. Its just the fun you are paying for x) love it
Like the casino
Your videos are awesome and so thorough!
My son was actually able to get up that ladder when he was 5 and he still has the huge bear that he won for it and still sleeps with it (he’s 7 now).
Aww~
wooooow!
@Ciantrex mhm
Here take 👑 for your son he is a king
Lucky
the idea of going to a carnival with literally an MLB pitcher is just priceless.
As someone who goes to boardwalk regularly, it was nice knowing I’ve been to the same places as mark.
the only comment i found i about the board walk go there all the time
Mark always has the coolest music for the job
The last scene is amazing! Great job!
@Derek L i literally have never seen this story before or anything like it
Bro ended the carnie's whole career
Dang
"ah crap, i was gonna take that one home!"
😆 Wicked, love this comment 🔥
A great video supported by an amazing hilarious ending!!! "Why?" 😂 Priceless. 😀
I love this channel , great videos keep up the great work...
As someone who goes to the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk (same park in this video) this gives me more depth about these games.
I was at a ring toss at a carnival and I asked the guy to show me that the ring fit over the top of the bottle. He told me to keep walking.... says it all really!
i won the “tight rope” game at great America and they had to take a picture of me so I couldn’t win until a month later lol
Wow omg that’s very impresive
I did this at a summer camp and wonore than I lose
FBI OPEN UP
Lol
Lol That's What Happened To Me I Went To The Closest Carnival And Some How I Got It The First Time And Of Course They HAD To Take a Picture And Then After The Picture I Fell Into The Mud And I Was So Mad ;-;
My dad won a Giant teddy bear on the ring toss in Reno (many, many moons ago) on his first shot. I was so proud of my dad for winning the Giant Teddy Bear.
Imagine being Matt's girlfriend/wife and getting loaded with prizes every time you went to a carnival together.
I used to work a "Jacobs Ladder" at festivals, I did it first try at a six flags in Denver. The secret is to balance your weight on one foot and the opposite hand, then when you step up to switch at same time to the opposite hand and foot.
I won the ring toss twice in one day. Carrying both those bears to the car was a nightmare
Lol your wife’s reaction was great! Thanks for explaining this so thoroughly. I knew they were scams but this tells exactly why.
@sulmukzasibar just because its scripted doesn't make it any less funny you nerd. is stand up any less funny cause its scripted?
I just bought this for you m’lady.
Most likely scripted.
I do laugh out loud a lot and her response made me laugh for like 10 mins 😂😂😂
Very seldom do I *really* laugh out loud, but that was one of them!
I laughed so hard at the end when he bought her a stuffed animal and she asked... "why?"
It’d be great if Andrew Applepie put out a full version of his ‘carnival song’!
last 5 seconds is comedy gold. so funny reaction of your wife with great setup ofc.
I went to Santa Cruz a few weeks ago, and my sister actually did the ladder climb! I asked her how, and she said she watched your channel 🥹
I remember hearing someone saying "a carnival is gambling but for kids."
You got better odds at a casino than at a carnival
@Samuel Recendez u act like 5
@Samuel Recendez Whats it called then hm?
Yup, teach 'em young to lose their money.
@Samuel Recendez Which one?
I completed the "impossible" ladder thing at skyzone
Also I hope you got permission to do this
Thank you for the reality check 🥰
I wonder how he teaches me more than teachers in my whole life
for the ladder climb I always just flip it over and climb it from underneath that way u can’t tip over
Mark: Let me just film random people failing
@GM3210 AND I CAN COMMENT IF I WANT ARE YOU THE BOSS OF ME NO
@GM3210 WHATEVER YOUR A JERK
@GM3210 Was I talking to you NO
Tig ol' Bitties... good... I’m gay 😂
@Skid Are you gay?
Your lady's reaction is the best part of the video!
The ladder is actually the easiest to beat, I usually tip over on the start without leaving the ladder and just keep going under it. I dont touch the ground so it counts.
You’re forgetting one very important part of carnival games and that is the excitement of playing and the excitement of possibly winning.
i cant wait till the next time i go to a fair or something im gonna tell everyone not to do those impossible games
The only dislikes are people who work at carnivals
So true
Or idiots
Yep
I think they like it too. Lol
Can’t even see ‘‘em them tho lol
All this video succeeded in doing was making me wanna go to the Boardwalk. 10/10
I taught my children about these games when they were young, because they had the whine on. Science, or in this case, physics wins everytime.
That Matt dude had insane aim and accuracy and power in his throws. Wow wow.
That ending was epic! 🤣
"The bigger a prize is,the more probable that is scam"
This is a life lesson.
So if someone promises me an eternity of happiness if I live my life in a certain way? Uh.... ?
It's obvious even a 5 years old kid knows that xD
A typical lottery: The bigger the prize, the less probability it is to win. But at the same time: Bigger prizes makes more people want to win as well. Just watch when the lottery have extra high prizes.
Amen
@Lau Boon Bee like the ones that give you a little plastic bug or something as a prize that probably costs maybe a few cents per one at max
His videos are great and I love them, but he deserves to have for subscribers then this.
Im always an eternal kid @ heart when im ever @ these amusement parks. Its not the winning but the laughter and fun of participating and missing out on winning a stuffed toy! Haha.
I beat the rope ladder thingy first try when I was 6 and have been able to do it since. :'3
I really enjoyed the ending 😆
I have a 100% win strategy on the baseball one.
Aim for the carnie's head, grab a prize while they're down.
even easier with the bb's!
Stanley Pines Copyright
Same for the Sharpshooter, but you cut the star out.
Yessssss
Bet he won’t crowd the carnies box next at bat 🤕 lol
The oddities team might come out the tent and fight tho
That basket ball thing I actually got one in on accident I thought I missed it but it bounced of the rim off one and landed in another
For the ladder you, can spin but not fall. Basically you have to climb up it upside down 😂
Great video bud. You missed one thing about the basketball hoops. The hoops are oval shaped. Look at them from the side of the hoops you'll see
I will definitely use this next time I go to the carnival
So refreshing to find a channel that is dedicated, hard working, and well put together. Not just screaming into a lense.
Are you the mother plugging the son in hopes he makes it big ànd moves out on his own soon ?

Bro taught me more in 10 minutes than my teachers did all school year
I mean...
It's like...
Why go to a restaurant if you can 'learn' to cook the exact same food(let's assume you can for arguments sake) for way cheaper?
It's for the experience, we pay for experience.
Serious answer aside, this is very entertaining and educational.
I totally agree with everyone that said he's a better teacher than real teachers.
The ladder climb I have always been able to do
That bit with the wife was hilarious, subbed!
