This was just the best podcast ever. Not many years behind this guy, i got so much stoke and motivation and positivity from him! Thank you Maciek and the Windsurfing TV crew for making it happen
I can't believe you guys managed to get Robby on podcast! 🥳 Well done👍
Den Go Windsurf was actually pretty easy about it! Stoked!! 🤙🏼
I met Robby once in Scheveningen( 1984, the Pall Mall Worldcup) It was about 8 or 9 oclock in the morning. It was rainy, no wind. Robby was rigging up his sails behind fences. I was the only one that early morning. Those days a 60.000 would show up. I wanted to see my hero and all the other surfers( Pete Cabrina, Jurgen Honschreid, etc) Robby saw me standing in the rain and envided me in the teamtruck or teamcontainer from Mistral/ Gaastra/O’neill. We talked about the bad weather, the windsurf conditions, the equipment he used, etc. I was 19 and he too i think. I feld soo good. When i hear him talking in this interview a hear the same guy as in those days: relaxed, honest and no tough talk. We are now 36 on and he is still my hero.I am 56 and Robby about the same. Still passionate about surfing. Thanks RobbyPs: I still have an expensive book of yours with windsurfing tricks......the hardest trick was the duckjibe and railride......times have changed. Ha ha. Great!!
Keep it going. That was brilliant. I find myself just waiting for these podcasts every Wednesday.
Robby is and ALWAYS will be #1!!!!! He is the definition of the windsurfing lifestyle and I support him 100 percent. Great interview POL23🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
One of the best ”interviewes” ever! All kind! All people! The King is spot on! I know. I just started windsurf again after 30 years of absence but the thrill is still there. Once a surfer allways a surfer!👍
planning on getting back on the water after 20 years. just waiting for the covid rules to drop, cant wait!
Same. After 10 years of break with WSa d only Surfing. Started learning wave sailing
@SuperFlo8888 That's great! I got back on the water one time this summer, and that's been a goal for about 30 years. Had a few equipment and wind (it was dead, and all of a sudden it was a lightning storm lol) issues, but hey I got to windsurf with some ducks, and didn't hit any SUP's so that is something.
Elliv Wiking I was absence almost 18 yrs too! 😳now ! I am back! First day take off from upwind side and come back to end of beach😂! After month ! Getting better! I can mowing the ocean lawn 🤣
Fantastic. He is my inspiration keeping me on the water. I got into Wing-Foiling this year after 29 years of windsurfing. A board, two foils, and two wings. All Naish gear. A very easy and fun sport to learn.
Great interview! :) Robby is so damn humble
Yes, take on the father of windsurfing before it’s too late! Great interview with Robby and amazed to sense the love, appreciation and stoke he gets out of the ocean...
This is why Robby is still and will always be #1 - as a person! Great interview, Maciek!
Great job Maciek with these long form conversations. Thank you.
Fantastic to hear so much from Robby, always the greatest ambassador for the industry.
A classic! Robby Naish, the king! Humble and friendly as always... great Podcast!
Awesome to see this legend taking the time to share :)
Thanks Robby and Maciek for this interview. I am almost 51 and picked up windsurfing 4 years ago after more than 25 years of absence. I didn't realize I was a fan of Robby until now. Being stoked will be my life motto for the years to come. I hope and will try to spread the vibe: love of nature, elements and life! It will make earth a better place :)Maciek, keep up the good work. I don't know you as a surfer but as an interviewer youre impression is pure and honest. Thanks again!
"I don't wanna play F*cking golf!" What a legend. Such a GREAT interview, thanks for sharing
Greaaaat job, lot of work. Your are doing a super thing for the sport interviewing amazing surfers. Hearing it everytime and loving it, great to hear some background stories of what we have dreamed about. Keep it up 💪🏻❤️👍🏻👌🏻🙂
Respect! A pleasure to hear Robby's journey and feel the passion for water sports.
I grew up from windsurfing on the 70s having the image of Robby as being mr Nice guy, and I always wondered if it was true. My feeling after that podcast now is that this guy is incredibly honest and faithful in his approach toward life, sponsors, or even interviewers. A great lesson for us all, and for the next generations.
Hats off guys! Amazing, fantastic, down to earth, humble, story telling, grounded, I smiled all the way listening to Robby. I am happy he is doing good, he deserves it. What a man, what a figure, what a life....share the stoke and surf the "wave"....🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
That was just great! Can’t find the words to express it.Great interview with a living legend, still sharing the stoke!
Loved it...loved it....loved it!!! Awesome to listen to Robbie reflect on more than forty years of windsurfing and water sports stoke. Well spoken and entertaining. Certainly one of the ambassador’s I looked to back in the day.
I just watched it again. Superb. Also really impressed the way Maciek didn’t let him off easily! Good work sir🤙
another great great episode!!! so down to hearth, simple and direct. Loved it I would love to hear Francisco Goya
Amazing to get Robby on this channel.
Finally - THE KING! I watched most of the windsurf clips on Gillete Wide World of Sports in the mid-eighties with the hope that I would be able to windsurf one day. I took it up late but it has been 20 years and going strong with my 99 liter and 6.0. Thanks for the continuous inspiration!
It was a sick one. Never had an opinion of him as a human, awesome to see his amazing passion for the sport. Well done with the interview too👍
Amazing, what a legend and at the same time such a humble person and clarity of thought on what drives and motivates him. Well done to the interviewer and team.
Great one.. Really love it... Robby unbelievable passionate... Keep doing the good work 👍👌
Love it 🤟 What he says about retired windsurfers are true. I’m same age and have started up again after being grandad. And the passion is still the same. Hangloose 🤟
Thank you so much guys. What a great and honest interview! No filter. So many insights I never heard of. So happy to see my hero (since 35 years, crazy! ) still young at heart and transporting the true spirit of windsurfing and watersports and sharing his passion. Legend! Started out on the mistral competition in 1980 and now total into windsurf foiling. Glad to be part of this revolution of all watersports. And really good to hear that it´s also kids getting into the wing thing. Best windsurf interview ever! Thanks & bravo Maciek!
Great podcast. Thanks!!!!! US1111, #1 Windsurfer ever. True to the sport. It's about having FUN!!!!
his perspective on life and being out there, just love it.
I love the inflatable wing! It reminds me of hang gliding which I also love! But Robby is right, Wingfoils should be mass produced and cheap, because there are ten times as many sub-15 knot lakes around the world that nobody sails on anymore because you couldn’t even get on a plane!
This is great , nice to hear from the king, his majesty! lol awesome pod cast!
Thanks so much for this! A great interview of an awesome guy. A very good moment at 1.06.40
The most authentic ambassador to any sport. Always inspiring.
Amazing, I loved that. There’s space in two hours for so many insights into the man and the history, and he’s such a grounded modest person who knows what is really important. And still central to pushing wind-and-water sports ever forward. So, Hoyle Schweitzer next?
@doofercall When i say edit it, i don't mean cut bits out. i just mean add relevant clips to what he's talking about. To do this takes a lot of time (time cost money) as you have to first find the clips (the hard bit) then find the bit to drop it in. I know i bore people every week with my 'support the channel' but if everyone did... this podcast would have video in it!' ...plus lots more things could happen.
@Windsurfing.TV ha, yeah I know it's already a lot of work but I didn't mean to imply you should edit it - on the contrary I like seeing the whole thing because it gives the full picture. Really great work
totally agree.. we did do that for the first couple but it was costing a lot of money. As you can imagine 2hr podcast and finding the clips takes a lot of time. If MORE people support the channel I will put more money into the podcasts. But at the moment it’s difficult to justify it. Do you support the channel with 'Beer money'? if yes.. thanks for the support. You are helping the channel produce these podcasts!
The beauty is what is said: used what you have and working on that! When you have new equipment and jump to next leave, that is how will improve your tech! Real legend! Robby: give you so much respectful! Aloha!
Congratulations to Windsurfing TV and to Maciek for this super interesting interview. Thanks Robby Naish for all you have done for windsurf!
Congrats Maciek for a great interview well deserved after all the hours you have put in -keep em up! Pod cast suggestions- Party animal please ‘that turned up to their heat straight from the club’. Oh and a ‘Christmas special’ where you get past guests back in a group meeting for a laugh would be fun!
I watched the whole thing! It took me 3 sittings but I'm so glad I did. Robby is still King in my book. Looking forward to the Hoyle Podcast.
Legend on every aspect. Especially for guys that lived this "golden" era as kids reading Wind magazine every month like psychopaths, dreaming on new moves at night. Listening to Robby is like an instant emotionnal jump back in time. Strange though to hear the cigarette industry was the main financial support for our sport to go big back in the days. Antagonist world. And yes, I join the growing list of old 50+ dudes riding again for 3 years, and it's the best decision I ever made. And we all owe it to you in a way. Amazing :-)And don't forget to support WindSurfing TV !! :p)
Best podcast in this series so far.
Great podcast ! Thank you Ben !
Robby love the commitment to the sport , grew up with you in the 80s , and I am at 56 still feeling the stoke! Glad you are too! You signed a small poster years ago when we were in Maui, to give out for a local regatta, it was the grand prize! Kudos and Well done!
How did I miss this interview!!! Exhilirating for someone who started windsurfing in France in 1982 and always held Robby as my idol eventhough he is only a few years older... Thanks for sharing this, I just love it! It reminded the soul of the sport and why I am so much into it while sailing so little unfortunately!
So awesome to listen to the King!! 👏👏🙏🙏
Robby at his best !!! What a great interview Maciek! Such a rich testimony from the great sportsman and person !
I remember being a spotty 14-year-old at the Zandvoort (NL) World Cup - getting my Quiksilver jacket signed by Robby. Still a fan! Still windsurfing (again - back after 25 yrs or so).
This was great. enjoyed it alot. I am restoring 80's boards and love it.
1:08:57 What Robby said: that make me feeling his intelligent jump to next level, the Aloha sprite in his heart! Wonderful 🤙
Just came across this great Interview from 2020. I started windsurfing in 76', and would see Robby in various magazines, but before computers there wasn't much information, especially in Austin. What a cool guy with great life philosophy. We think a lot alike. I did some racing back in the 80's on Div 2 boards, but just going out and progressing personally was more fun than racing. Never stopped windsurfing. Now at 60 Y.O. having a blast windfoiling. His reference to "watching the trees" for wind back in the day really hit home. Well done Windsurfing TV !,
Thank you guys, it was a pleasure listening to this!
great job Maciek. naish is the true ambassador for the sport👏👏👏👏👏
Owned a Windsurfer 103 and back in the 80s starting going to Oahu and made a side trip to Naish's shop one day and lost my mind looking at all the super cool custom boards. Bought a 9'2" wing pin with 2 thrusters. I came back to Canada with that board and my buddies were so jealous. That board was fast without the thrusters, turned awesome with them. Took it to the Hood River that summer, it would be 20 of us sailing at Swell City, amazing days. Robby is right, the coolness just doesn't stop, now started foiling, just awesome.
The story the legend,thanks Ben!!!!!
"These are the sports (windsurfing) people do because they fill you with life". No truer words spoken.
I’d love to see Robby Naish make and sell an inflatable beach hang-glider! Something that you could pack down and stuff in your car trunk! Dune Gooning at the beach is a blast! But it’s gonna need to be 3 times the wingspan, so it will need internal telescopic carbon-fiber tubing and Spectra kite-strings for wires, and a super light paraglider harness.
Fantastic podcast 👍👍👍
Bravo Maciek!...great podcast. Robby is a true gentleman a really nice person and a legend. Met him some 25 years ago at Pozo during a PBA event under a burning sun and he was kind enough to chat with me in the middle of the competition. A week later I was with my newly wedded wife on a plane to Maui to enjoy our honeymoon....
Best podcast ever ! AA top 3 of robby naish.. He knows his stuff ! God himself.
Such a legend!!
Awesome podcast! Very interesting.🤙
Wow, not pretentious, not full of himself and so totally down to earth, he truly is the king of our sport. How do you follow that one up Maciek?
I think Bjorn gets really misunderstood with that little weird thing you’re saying. Jimmy Diaz talked about it really nicely on his episode. Maybe that’s a nice talking point when he decided to pick my invitation up :)
@Maciek Rutkowski Hoyle would be awesome. Dunkerbeck would be interesting, though I reckon he would also be pretty polarizing. He may be one of the greatest, but there's something about him that I'm not sure about, possibly the almost exact opposite of Robbie in temperament.
paulsp2k haha not easy, what do you suggest? 😁
Nice interview with the legend. What would make it even better would be some shots of the things Robby talks about e.g. the people, boards/kit, spots etc as you go along...
Phil S totally agree.. we did do that for the first couple but it was costing a lot of money. As you can imagine 2hr podcast and finding the clips takes a lot of time. If more people support the channel I will put more money into the podcasts. But at the moment it’s difficult to justify it.
What a fucking treat. Thank you so much Robby & Windsurfing TV! LEGEND!!!!
It must be bloody brilliant and almost like going back 30 years before everyone came to Maui and packed out the beaches and the best spots. You've been blessed to be living in a time machine. Everywhere else in the world the beaches are packed because they can't travel. \\Hope you appreciate the emptiness it's a once in a lifetime experience, make the most of it, Surprised you don't mention it.Can't really get my head around the wingsurfing thing if you're a windsurfer, seems different but nowhere near as easy nor efficient as a decent windsurfing rig apart from the novelty factor and ease of rigging up. Just sayin' The stories of the progression are absolutely fascinating, this is the best documentary I've ever seen. Congrats.
Awesome. Robby Naish my hero. (52 myself)
Ahmet Cem TURAN good part he is organic made😎! Everything is real! Not rely on equipments etc...🤙
Great interview. Very meaningful topics.
I don’t want to f***ing play golf! I want to go windsurfing!! 😂👌
Love his attitude to all water sports
Would be great to have Robby Naish on Joe Rogan , I think that would work well as Joe Rogan would so dig that sporting history from the GOAT
Hey Rob, amazing that you finally give such a massive interview..... VERY COOL !..... ..Kuky
Thanks a lot guys, waiting this interview for ages....
Echo all th eother comments: great interview with a guy who has inspired generations, and driven multiple watersports with real passion.
Yesss!!! Looking forward to watching this later 👌🏻👌🏻
I saw a KZclip of guy who was ridge soaring a beach cliff with a paraglider, and he had a little wake board and he drops into the surf and starts kitesurfing with the paraglider! That was a pretty cool transition!
It is just about having fun and share the passion of the sports with other people.....
That was amazing!
Definitely interview Hoyle Schweitzer!
No just call me Rob! Gotta love his Karma!
The One And Only!!! Mistrz!!!
Can you recall your favorite wind tree. The 15 knt tree. And the 20+ knt tree.
great interview tx !!
Very Cool. I never liked the gear focus in the wind sports industry.
Robby doesn't golf, I knew it!!!!
I still have my '92 Robby Naish and Jutta Müller Autogramm Shirt.. ;-).. Great talk about great days..
wooo the king finally!!!!
nice work ben!!
Great talk, but to short!! Haha
I’m having about the same age as Robby( i’m 56) and he still is my idol. Am i weird?
No, I’m 62 and he’s been my idol for about 40 years!!
Ad Bouwens no!!
Naish truly nice guy
Ben, you asked for names of potential interview partners. I suggest that Maciek interviews yourself :)
windsurf foiling is easy in light winds.
