Popped up and couldn't stop. Brilliant. Covered almost every aspect of our believes and misconceptions. I could so relate with a lot of aspects I have faced at work and with family where the easiest reaction of those spoken to upfront, have chosen to run away from the situation , succeeded and framed you. An absolute eye opener.
Sharing it with my daughter since she's a Clinical psychologist and certainly would love this interview. 👍

Extremely stoked to live in a world where these two phenomenal minds exist. The 48 laws of power is an exploration of the deep dark recesses of the collective human unconscious which allows and provides us the opportunity to integrate our shadow, to become a more competent, charismatic and wholesome human being (as explained in my ‘Power Intro’ video).
Looking forward to having both of these gentlemen (the only two alive on my background painting) on my channel in the near future 🔥
Enormous thank you to both of you.

19:00 I've always had this kind of lingering apprehension about working for anyone else that he describes, ever since working a job where the people there were the type of people he describes who try to denigrate and undermine someone for doing a good job - and especially someone who outdoes them for their own incompetence or negligence. I work for myself now, which was a benefit, but it definitely ruined my perception of work environments that most people find themselves in, and it did leave a sort of residual trauma - because it caused chaos when I was doing everything right. Infuriating really, when you get down to the bottom of it.

@Beauty & Brains "but it may take 20 yrs just to restore the bits of our wrecked freaking soul that has been stolen in the process!" So damn true. That stress and malice literally changes DNA. I don't recall encountering JP talking about this specifically but I've watched enough of him to have gotten that gist, and certainly had the anecdotal experience of it myself. When you're in those situations, in the meat-grinder of the slog - fight or flight inducing weight that is it's routine, it's all too difficult to see a way out but there are always such small steps, actions, and beliefs that can be shifted towards improvement at the most immediate and simple level before having to worry about the whole 'dragon.' Learning about personality types through JP, among the big five, and how certain types of people will essentially 'funnel' through 'valleys' to certain fields of work or end up trapped in them was revelatory - because I think what can happen, like you say, good people can end up among bad - and those types can change others around them - embitter - if they're stuck with each other - not to say clashing personality types are inherently 'bad' but you certainly need to know what yours are so you are at least in the right field, first off. Because then you will be emboldened as a competent force among your peers to hold them up to high standards, and to speak out with purpose when others try to detract from your environment. The faster and more proactively you 'care for yourself like another person you love' and realign your life - accepting your own faults or mistakes, and taking responsibility for your position in your life and trying to change it, the better - especially in comparison to the outcome of NOT doing so - being stuck in a toxic environment, not making the most of your own potential, being pulled down by others for their own abandon or whim. Scary, really, how easy it is to end up feeling stuck like that. My prayers go out to Pat too, and anyone else in a similar situation.

    • Beauty & Brains

@Patman Patmanson prayers. I will honestly spend energy and time meditating and seeing goodness and success for you, and covering from conflict and torment in your environment. I've been out of mine over a year now but I'd have given anything for someone to relate or be able to truly understand what I was going through. People don't want to hear that sht. I hear you. The only solace I had was that I finally chose to invest just as much time visualizing, planning, and putting into place the pieces to make my future bigger than my present as the time I spent dealing with the burn out, trauma, and daily 'beatings' i was recieving. I now work for myself. I am completely changed by the experience but I went back to school and finished a masters.
      Bnb

Residual trauma 😆 it was more than that, man! Remember Jordan's talk when he spoke about how when we're at a shitty job or toxic work environment. We hatch a brilliant plan in our heads to get out in 5 years type thing. He then reminds that we may stay on at the company for those five years, but it may take 20 yrs just to restore the bits of our wrecked freaking soul that has been stolen in the process! I worked there too, friend. I was there. I worked in a government position that was corporate psychopathology at its best. There are devils! Even if I didn't believe in them before I did by the end. I wanted to write about the experience but was too drained and infuriated to even function by the end of it.
I did come to realise that there seems to be a virus or disease of sorts that occurs. Sadly, even if a perfectly emotionally, mentally, or spiritually healthy person joins that environment, they will become infected in time. If they're smart, they'll get out quickly before it robs their soul!

@Patman Patmanson My advice to you, is to speak the truth in your defense as clearly and articulately as possible, especially if it will rock the boat. Document and record information of your work as carefully and in as much detail as possible to back up this truthful, conscientious mode of speech. This is a tactic Dr. Peterson advises for situations like these, where people are detracting from their environment and trying to undermine you maliciously, intentionally or not.. He has talked about speaking extremely truthfully of your thoughts and observations even if it will cause upheaval, because that upheaval is always better than the outcome of allowing truth to go unspoken or unrecognized. Have exit-strategies lined up in advance, in the way of an updated resume and new interviews ready if necessary - an important key factor if people who should listen to that truth choose not to or are apart of the problem in the first place. Best of luck.

@Damien Mulder as a Christian what do you preach ? What 'good' do you do or are you doing? Atleast did you read any other versions of bible ? You quoted from KJV , good news bible has 4 more books in it and there are more versions of the same bible ! there are some books like 'the book of Enoch' ,'the book of watchers' and more which were excluded from the bible ,do you know ? Have you read them ? .....You should look at your shit , so you'll know what isn't digested .... You should open up your mind a little bit to the possibility that all you think and know is a lie ... because it is !

    • Rohan Jarande
      Rohan Jarande 10 ай бұрын

@Damien Mulder You're just an ignorant zealot though. Nothing you say is relevant to or reflective of reality.
You're just lost in a bubble, but also can't survive without it. What's worse is you are using the story of Jesus Christ to sustain this limbo.
Maybe it gives you comfort to offload all the responsibility on Christ's shoulders, but it's still you fooling yourself in the end. It's just a lie.

    • Damien Mulder
Damien Mulder 10 ай бұрын +1

@Rohan Jarande Nope, try again. Notice you said 'or'? So I guess there isn't a dark side and good side. You're either doing good, or you're doing bad. Not both. Without Jesus it's not possible for you to do good, there is no 'good side' for you without Jesus. Period.
Every single human is a born sinner - so everyone is born only with their 'bad side'. Only Jesus can bring out any good in you, you are never doing any good of your own volition, it's all incidental. Or, if you're not Christian, you're never doing anything good for anybody.
Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
So no, you're mistaken. They are preaching duality, which is a luciferian belief.

    • Rohan Jarande
      Rohan Jarande 10 ай бұрын

@Damien Mulder Everyone is capable of doing good or evil. it's a choice.
Why are you enforcing a duality when there is none? Jordan and Mr. Green here have essentially this exact point.
The talk about the shadow is just a big metaphor, they are not talking about an actual second self in reality. They're just talking about people not knowing their own capabilities, good or bad, intentional or Not.
You rolled a little too hard with your assumptions there.

The idea of wanting everyone to win when one person wins, giving all kids presents at a birthday, is a great way to make sure kids don't learn how to deal with jelousy. Oh you don't want your kid to be jelous in a safe learning environment? Well they're going to turn into adults who don't even have basic skills in dealing with feelings of jelousy, that's dangerous as heck.

I remember when I first read 48 LOP it put me into a dark place leaving me trust issues. After maturing and learning more in the world I came back to try it again. After that it brought me more awareness and ways to delicately work with evil/corrupt/egotistical people in a smoother manor. Certain tools for certain jobs. Same way we can’t use a hammer to fix everything. Awesome interview with two great minds.

@Joshua Da Silva Actually the argument of that book is based on Machiavelli's school of thought, which basically states that you should use whatever means necessary to gain power, as the one who does so has the RIGHT to do so.

It’s a blessing this content is free. I feel honored to even be able to get to listen to these conversations. Also, [mostly] everyone commenting on these- it’s great to know we aren’t all going mad as far as the example of the “authoritarian empath”. Unapologetically willing to say what’s on your mind is more respectable than hiding in the dark as to not offend someone. Good grief I can’t imagine being a parent to a college student in this day and age. You can’t protect everyone and if you try then you’re the one who’s going to get stepped all over losing yourself in the process because you’ll have no sense of identity. People pleasing can tarnish into a self deprecating catastrophe if you don’t stand up for yourself and are too worried about what others think.
My super agreeable mother has made me proud over the years because seeing her stand up for herself in the workplace is not a character trait I thought I would ever get to hear of as pathetic as that sounds. She often lets people walk all over her because she can be too nice and I see what will happen a mile away. People take advantage of her kindness. What a world.

    • Tanya Arons
      Tanya Arons 18 күн бұрын

I am a very agreeable person but I also have an infamous “last nerve”. I always say “never mistake my kindness for weakness”. Psychopaths love to invade boundaries as it’s almost a sport for them. Like pulling wings off flies. But I have lived long enough to recognise when I am allowing someone to think they are overpowering me to sit back, observe and bide my time for the offensive. ;-)

I am the too agreeable mother too. Standing up for myself is so foreign, so difficult, it is actually painful. I tremble, and have a hard time speaking, even when I know I need to speak up, and stand my ground. If your mother has in any way figured out how to stand up for herself, you are right to be proud of her. Also, be proud of her that she is such a nice person. Respect her no matter what, she is an individual, she may continue to grow or she may remain who you have always known her to be. Respecting her encourages, helps build confidence, supports who she is. Enjoy who she is, don't wish and try to chnage her. Just accept, love and respect her.

You are definitely not alone. Not in your pain . Not in thinking you would be the only one. Quite the opposite. There is a rather big set of emotions in humans and we all have more or less the same. We have parts in our brain and to function they create a sense of separation. That's why we oftentimes believe we are the only ones who feel this kind of anxiety for instance or Ina certain why. But we are more connected to each other as we think.

I'm Divinely grateful to JP for having one of my most beloved authors, Robert Green. I really loved both of you men for how you guys have reshaped my brain and my mind. I just finished reading " Beyond Order" which I have to said it was such an eye-opener that I'm still
savoring and letting it penetrates my conscious mind. Thank you both for coming to this Magnificent Earth to Transform Our Minds and Spirits. Robert out of all your books there are two of them that I love the most. The Laws of Human Nature and The 48 Laws of Powers. They are absolutely Phenomenal reads, which I sincerely recommend to anyone who is looking to learn the Essence of the species in its most profound and vast complexities.

it is pretty cool hearing this. i started a business over 20 years ago, but before that, i too was restless. what Jordan says is so right. if you simply do a really good job, to the point where the boss knows he/she cannot find an easy replacement, and if you make the job of the boss a lot easier by what you do, you really will become a force to be reckoned with. give it an honest year and your boss really will see it and will fear losing you.

This conversation really resonated with me, my wife and I bought a house in the country after the kids were raised and out on their own, and we found all sorts of problems we didn't know of at the time we bought. One year, about twelve or fifteen years ago, we had to rebuild the understructure of the house, it'd been flooded, and the damage hidden rather than repaired by the previous owner, and cost half the purchase to get it lifted and repaired, then as the fall came, the heat came on, with the smell of gas, and we had do replace that system, doubling the cost, and then rains came for the winter, and part of the roof blew off, tripling the cost.
My wife and I both found out a level of anger, and having to deal with it ourselves, to save ourselves, because living the anger out is so destructive in every way. I came into marriage from war as a marine, and to even get married meant becoming civilized, essentially for the first time in my life. If not for that experience, in 84, "turning over a new leaf", I don't think I'd have been able to deal with the escalating cost, in both money and in time, life energy.
I lost Connie, my wife, two years ago, and the journey we traveled together is what gave me the where-with-all to get through that, philosophically, and we both grew much stronger in our faith and in our egalitarian perspectives, because it was so hard to reconcile the anger over deception, and handle to day to day reality of dealing fairly, without anger, with those doing the work of repair, dealing with the dirtiest, worst part of the job.
We had a Mexican work crew for the undergirding repairs, and the three of them, boss and workers, took it all in stride, can do attitude, and it was infective, a major aspect of the whole of it. The cultural perspective was enlightening, and addictive, we enjoyed their perspective, working in the yard, around the house, while it was being lifted up and put back together. The level of anger we contain is always deceptive, and so easily can be played out if we are willful, far beyond any reason. Losing my wife two years ago brought much of the anger back, and I've had to deal with my own behavior over something that demanded "forgive and forget" if I would avoid poisoning myself. The people responsible don't live "next door", and are not still here for confrontation, recompense.
One of the big things that happens, is we can remember when we've been on the wrong side, especially if we've never confronted the behavior, anger.

This conversation really shows just how dynamic of a mind Robert Greene really has, he’s able to take Peterson head on, without going with his highs and lows. Peterson is very scattered verbally but intellectually vicious. While Greene actually has quite a “heart” while being able to keep this “veil” of realism around the conversation. This was really interesting.

May I suggest that part of how you perceive JP interrupting his guests might be related to how you yourself enjoy holding conversations. i know my mom absolutely hates me interrupting her to ask questions in between (which are of course related to the topic that’s being talked about). I on the other hand don’t mind those „interruptive“ questions i actually enjoy them cause I feel like they allow you to potentially go deeper and also make sure you understand your counterpart correctly.
that being said he is a human being so inherently he is not perfect. I’m assuming tho that he is aware of his „weaknesses“ in that area if he happens to view this as a weakness.
I get that making him aware could be well intentioned but I’m pretty sure he already gets criticized enough so i’m just wondering if this is actually a helpful comment.
      Have a good day 😊

This is exactly what happened to me - within me from a young age, I had this will to attain power and control over my own life by committing myself to learning a skill through strict discipline, by sacrificing almost everything else for a good stretch of time in order to attain that - I strongly suspected that that's what I should do in order to get the power and control over the direction of my life - but I didn't have a man in my life to help me confirm that suspicion, or to encourage me to believe in my own intuition, or to guide me to execute what needed to be executed - I am now 40 years old, never having done anything I'm proud of, and having done many things I'm deeply ashamed of - I now lie on my bed every day, suffering with increasingly unbearable chronic pain in my back and hips, planning my own suicide.

Two more thing watch this: Start at 29 :50. It's obviously not the same thing that your going through, but the point is, is to embody his spirit and approach.
Mastery interview with Robert Greene - Elwin Robinson
      & here's a few jewels I'll drop:
The most intelligent men, like the strongest, find their happiness where others would find only disaster: in the labyrinth, in being hard with themselves and with others, in effort; their delight is self-mastery; in them asceticism becomes second nature, a necessity, as instinct. - Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche
“Laughter is the best medicine. If you can laugh when you are ill you will get your health back sooner. If you cannot laugh, even if you are healthy, sooner or later you will lose your health and you will become ill.” - Osho
Health, bliss and peace to you. Farewell😃

@illement7 I believe in myself, but I do not want to do anything whilst I am in the pain that I am in. I can't enjoy anything. It sucks the pleasure out of everything. I'm not interested at all in trying to live with this pain at its current intensity. I'd rather be dead. Full stop.

    • illement7
      illement7 9 ай бұрын +6

@Acid You can always improve your health in every aspect no matter what disease your experiencing. You still got a lot of time and hey your already rock bottom. Your thinking of death, you got nothing to lose and nothing to fear now. Do what ever it takes to improve your health and master it. Btw, you don't need any man to guide you in life. You can succeed if nobody else believes it, but you will never succeed if you don't believe in yourself. Keep going, don't give up.
I wanna share you a video that will be very beneficial. If you implement some of the ideas no doubt you'll get better. It's insanely tough to be in your situation, but from what you typed in your initial paragraph I think you got what it takes. With time, diligence and consistency you can get there.

I would not be myself today without these two monsters of teachers. THANK YOU GUYS FOR EXISTING , THANK YOU!!!

This has been said many different ways, as most things have, "be street smart and book smart", "wise as a serpent, harmless as a dove", these men seem to be discussing this principle from a socio-pshycological perspective, and how to apply the principle in mindset and practice, I like it.

An excellent discussion between two great minds. This is me choosing my peer as you put it JP. Thank you both for sharing this with the world. Your contributions to society is invaluable. Each man should aspire to the same in their own way or wander into a maze of regret.
Robert you make a beautiful point I wish the modern world would hear. That is we belittle and attack intelligence because it makes us feel inferior. Well the sheep in the herd are offended.

I'm grateful for this interview, I've been interested in some of Greene's books, but I couldn't bring myself to read them. To be honest, I was afraid to read them bc I was raised by a narcissist so the thought of learning how to manipulate terrifies me. Yet at the same time I feel like understanding it better would bring healing. Its very helpful to know that the exploration was not brought out of malicious intent or some form of vanity. Thank you both, great interview!

I really appreciate Jordan Peterson, but I find that he has a consistent habit of interrupting people in the middle of insightful thoughts. Again, I truly appreciate his insights. I hope that this sentiment finds him, and is received well.
Beyond that, I loved the interview!

@Mister’Kotathank you perfect description! When Dr JP interjects I am like "wait what was Robert saying next" but then JP's comment or questions piques my interest WAY higher than what was being said, and I thought multiple times "how did he think to ask about that?" And then Robert's answer is genius and and we get to see more depth to what he says rather than the surface level convo.

Thankfully, I was brought up in 1960/70s Scotland where you learned in rapid time to look after yourself physically, especially at school. This innate human behaviour was allowed to exist and only controlled by consequence. Since my childhood, the unbridled exposure to that normal human behaviour has made me a confident, calm and law abiding person.
I have read, with much envied interest, both Jordan’s and Robert’s view on life and meaning and see obvious parallels to their cogent reasons of why they believe what they say.
Here is my penny worth: The saying, ‘No man is an island’ is not necessarily true in the sense of rebirthing your mind to survive the insane world of today. In a way, I see myself standing on an island as a sovereign individual (a young child) needing to grow into a man who can eventually be of sound mind and actions; without which, I cannot function in a normal society.
By looking to myself for answers, and taking responsibility for my individual thoughts and actions, I am able to easily rise above the woke ideology of group cultures and perceived victimhood.

Oh wow I have never heard someone talk about this, buying the book immediately. I just had a discussion with someone about this two days ago. I'm very successful in my pursuits and it hasn't benefited me in the corporate world. Three times I moved up rather quickly, which you would think would be a good thing, but it was the kiss of death each time. At first everything is great, I have a sense of achievement in my work, feel like a real asset and making connections, upper management loves me, etc.. But then I get a little too close to said upper management and become a threat. I unknowingly followed what he says here, I never outshine the master and always give the sense I'm teachable and can learn from them. It still didn't work. The job I have now is so great, none of that nonsense going on, the environment is incredible. So anyone going through the same thing, leave! A better job is out there.
