Ip Man vs karate master Donnie Yen vs Chris Collins Ip Man 4 The Finale

  • Жарияланды 2022 ж. 1 Нау.
  • Ip Man vs Karate Master Here’s the iconic fight scene between Donnie Yen and myself (chris collins).
If we can get enough views on this video I will do a fight breakdown with behind the scenes footage of how we came up with this fight together. It was super fun making this fight scene.

After seeing other people's comments I decided to check and Chris's movements made much more sense. His karate blocks were closer to the body than Goju Ryu or Shotokan and felt more akin to Wing Chun, even when the form is flawless. His delivery is excellent and I honestly cant imagine how many takes it took to perform the flying kick takedown.
    Great job. Simply great.

@Chris Collins Holy, just three takes. That's amazing. It goes to show how good martial artists are on picking up timing for the technique and proper form, because the position of the back leg is pretty much text book.
      Your disciples are very fortunate.

I also studied Karate (Wado Ryu) and Wing Chun and believe that a combination of both styles are more effective than just one. I think this scene is a perfect demonstration of that, especially when fighting a much stronger and bigger opponent. Love the Ip Man series but recognise that Wing Chun has it’s limitations despite what’s shown here.

Pure karate and especially pure wing chun isn’t usually effective, but having a base in either and filling in the weak spots with techniques from other disciplines can make for a very effective fighter, they may need to use exceptional movement and timing which may not be able to be developed by the average person though

@TzunSu Bruce Lee thought the same ,that's why his fighting style was no style.

Tbf, if you're looking for an effective fighting style, no style of karate or wing chun will be effective. There's good reasons for why people fight in actual full contact matches don't use either, and it's not because it's "too deadly".

the ``principles´´ of wing chun are exceptional but... it suffers from dynamism, varied blows and techniques that can be acquired from other styles.

This is a great fight scene. As a former student of American Tae Kwon Do I am more into leg work than punches since I have long legs and stand at 6' tall it was the best fit for my body type, and being in the Army it was a radical departure from the ground fighting they taught us with was closer to jiujitsu and I enjoyed Tae kwon do quite a bit and did it for years till I herniated 2 disks in my lower back working on trains. I miss training and practicing forms, and still do upper body stuff but I can't do the twisting anymore for the legs.

Short fist kung fu is, and always has been, an effective fighting style to use against karate. The other masters before Ip Man enters, are using long fist kung fu styles, which traditionally are not as strong against a karate trained opponent. A good example of short fist kung fu in motion (which master Ip is using the Wing Chun version of, is at 4:41-4:53) This is a classic example of short first vs karate. Chris Collins attempts to fight in an improvised short fist style momentarily, but as he's not mastered the craft, fails in counter attacks and defense at 4:47. Ip man really shows the karate fighter the weakness of his kata, through a "quick" demonstration of short fisted Kung Fu beginning at 5:10 and continuing through the end of the fight.
TLDR: short fist > karate > long fist. Obviously this only holds true given the match up of size, reach, and level of expertise of the fighters.
For more information on the styles of short and long fist kung fu, reference google.

I respect all countries that practice martial arts because they all bring a uniqueness to the battlefield and when in the movies good or bad you have to love the skills of their art! True life now their respect for each others art is uncorrected by politics, countries,or cultures! Keep studying learning multiple arts and most importantly, keep the bar set soooo high on respect!❤
