Oh my!!! To a certain extent it reminds me of my Japanese granny Shizue Yamamoto preparing tempura for me. Just that instead of using carrots and green pods you used cabbage. It is so clever. It is amazing how people from different cultures prepare basically the same delicious goodies from local produce available in their own countries. Loved your style of cooking! The sauce made from yougurt is amazing! Thanks!!!

My late wife made this dish in the 1980s, we had no name for it so we called it Cabbage Kathleen after her. Like her the lady who presented this video was very much aware that food needs to be presented with care and respect. thank you

I would avoid to fry as much as possible by using any other way to cook this wonderful veggie.

@Donna Armstrong "Cabbage Kathleen" .... presented with love and respect ? .... lol. Don't be ridiculous!
This is just reinvention of the wheel. Boiled cabbage, fried onions, chop the suckers finely and make into burgers with eggs and flour.
It's a dish any fool with a sprinkling of culinary sense could knock up. It's been made thousands of times before by millions of people.
Let's just bring ourselves back to earth shall we?! It' s certainly not worth of all the sycophantic praise and reverence which is going on!

Great idea! I don't know if it's better than meat, but certainly looks delicious. However, it does lack protein, which means that I'm going to stick to bean and corn burgers for now (adding corn provides the amino acid that beans lack).
But the yogurt sauce really calls for crushed fresh mint. It's a Middle Eastern tradition. Besides, many people, such as your truly, have an intense and possibly hereditary reaction to fresh coriander/cilantro. It tastes truly foul to us. I grow it in my garden, but only for my wife.
    Cheers!

It's a standard English bubble and squeak with a white sauce. My grandmother used to make it, but sometimes with mayonnaise instead of yoghurt, more than 60 years ago. It tastes delicious as the basis for a good midwinter breakfast, with bacon mushrooms and fried tomato, maybe with another fried or scrambled egg, or even with bread. Thanks for the reminder.

I have done this recipe before but I used shredded potatoes for potato pancakes. You just have to draw out the liquid from the potatoes with some salt and wring it out with a cheese cloth or a thin tea towel. You can also add in some canned salmon or tuna. For an extra creamy for the yogurt you can add an avocado. Delicious! :--)

@elizabeth gottfried If you made this with shredded beef, then you didn't make *this*, you made meatloaf patties. The oil is absolutely necessary for making these without meat; your shredded beef is what provided the oil in your case.

Hi, I'm Japanese & just came across your video, for I like cabbages. In Japan, we have a very similar food named "OKONOMI-YAKI" (お好み焼き=choiced fry food). We have different ingredients we can add to it (meat, corn, seaweed &, etc.) but your recipe is almost the same as its base. Interesting! (some add cheese, rice cake, fried flower crumbs & different kinds of seafood)

I have a similar recipe in our Indian cuisine except we use rice and/or gram flour for nutrient content and the mixture is flavored with more additional spices.

Great video!! Looks absolutely beautiful. Do a similar thing (but add crispy bacon) with left-over veg' from a Sunday Roast called "Bubble & Squeak". Cabbage is key! My wife likes it with a poached egg on top. All the best.

Excellent cabbage reicepy!! It just amazes me how magically good cabbages and turnips tastes when added to beef soup that I cook up! I did the same beef soup with out the cabbage and turnip and that magic taste is gone. I'm now working on cooking up my new beef- onion only soup, Wich takes some trials and errors to perfect it, but I'll get it.😇😇😇👍👍

The lady who made this video is obviously a good cook. It looked wonderful! However, unfortunately I'm not. Mine turned out a fail. In the frying pan, mine splintered and I ended up with loose fried cabbage. I also tried to see how it would do in air fryer. Ended up putting patties into aluminum boats initially, then I had to peel off aluminum to flip it. Like I said, a fail for me, but hers were beautiful!

@Einfache Rezepte definitely better than meat, in my opinion it may not be better than my favorite ribeye 😂 it’s definitely better for you. I found after experimenting with this particular recipe I used bacon fat to cook with, I found that really good olive oil worked better and it’s probably best.
