“You set me up” might sound like a comedy, but so does ‘hello mum, got any spare home cooked chickpea curry before I shoot at you with a crossbow from an elevated platform on the vikings, whilst looking like your cousin’s boyfriend’. Can’t say I’ve ever dated a man that pulls out a hairdryer and set of straighteners and begins to apply cosmetic concealer before leaving to work on a building site. Not the most impressive behaviours or manners I’ve ever seen, but definitely something to complain about. The plastic Darwinian bust and narcissistic assertion of ‘knowledge’ over genuine introspection or contemplative curiosity was quite honestly the strangest and most traumatic experience yet. And although my text isn’t technically in keeping with the thread, I just thought I’d add it anyway, because I found a rin which seemed to chime with the peculiarity and difference of psychology.
I have recently found your channel and I am impressed by the deep evocative conversations you have….I think that is what makes you stand out (you don’t interview but instead have a conversation ). I would love it if you could have the freestyle rapper Harry Mack as a guest 🤗
Hello there. I loved the podcast. I saw Stephen Fry and i stopped. It's one of those humans who make this a better, funnier and more intelligent world. I'm from Portugal, so i'm not English native. Can i ask ( spe
@io ciccio oh look, here comes an inbox full of it this morning, saying ‘I’ve just thrown eye over the balcony’ for Hollywood’s version of a mummy, oink oink and all that! I wonder if she can buy her children in the shops again today; maybe she’ll find them on the patch where you said you found them and won’t have to pay you any protection money? Nifty! Removing a bitch from the box, well I never, maybe there’ll be a new queen to replace the old one. Or better still… And What with all these Mattel Alfred Hitchcock barbies suing for mucky damages to their psyche, and hopes of what one’s to become, I must seem impervious to such kindnesses.
@io ciccio yes, well I too wouldn’t choose a ‘scruffy homosexual activist’ as a farther, but clearly someone did and then tried to repeat the error yet again, in a worsened diabolicalism! There’s no need to write with so many capital letters, as though you were pretending to be a screaming peasant, or akin to Paul Burrell; and I don’t live in a palace I’m afraid, so I’ve no idea why you’d dump these things on my doorstep perpetually, when I’d previously sat quietly minding my own business. I’m not sure who’s ego you seem to be insinuating, but that kind of narcissistic response clearly isn’t introspective? As you’ll notice in my previous comment, i wasn’t attempting to be a comedian, but had a genuine complaint, funnily enough about quality and TYPE OF PEOPLE, irrespective of rank, delusion, or behaving rancidly; as did you, it seems? And as you communicate over my shoulder with you’re labelling habits, y o ‘ur not looking like a national treasure at all, but just another bum chum with a fear of the lamp; hence feel free to scream out your issues and their reasons? And you question where my vocabulary originated, when I don’t skull-Fuck myself with shitty fiction books or a horrifically cacophonous trail of magazines or insidious snipe? Well, about that type of control and the status and emotion it asserts?
One of the scariest things about depression is you feel so incredibly alone, and unique, like your the only one in the world that endures these horrific, stupid things. The huge gift Stephen Fry gives us, is the knowledge that we’re not alone, and maybe there’s a way out! What a wonderful man!
@Morbid Man Music GOD BLESS YOU from a Kiwi in New Zealand 🇳🇿. I've been there and JESUS is blessing me ever since. Trials and tribulations are part of life as our sin is to ...... HE healed me,bought new perspective and wisdom that I know has been answers to my prayers. The way and how it's happened has given me my proof of HIM blessing my faith and relatinship. GOD BLESS 🙏👏👍
@jennifer McDonald To GOD every one is equally special and unique, HE give us the choice to know HIM and freely gives to anyone who asks HIM and will provide all our needs according to HIS riches and glory. HE has infinite amounts.Very best to you and yours.
@Mahabodhi Burton No, not really. His explanation on free speech was silly, yet you will find people on the left that they arguments do not really stand up, so they believe they should cancel everyone who does not agree with them. I like Stephen Fry, yet not his politics.
@Ripdbtp OO Hey. I find life difficult, yet everyday when I leave the house, I will always, always be as kind, positive to others as I can possible be. I think possibly I am too fucked to really change, yet I try and treat others as best I can. Maybe I might just make someone's day. So maybe you are alone, sorry for that. Yet, try to.make life as good as you can, for yourself and for others. Take care.
I think Stephen Fry is a kind of wonderful combo of Oscar Wilde and Socrates. As someone who has also had severe trouble with their mental health I am presumptuous enough to think of him as a friend even though I have never met him. Thank you Stephen Fry. You rock!
What appeals to me about Stephen Fry is his honesty and humility. I also find his vocabulary admirable, his pronunciation enjoyable and his humanity endearing. ❤
@Dougy according to you, but why should I trust your opinion? Just about every religious person for the last 10,000 years has been sure that whatever religion they have is the truth, confident that they know what God or the Gods want. This just seems a bit presumptuous from my perspective. I just don't think its a good idea to trust people who claim to know what God wants. Whether they are standing in front of me, or they wrote it down in a book thousands of years ago, it just seems unlikely God would want me to trust people who claim to be speaking for God.
@Leda Swan AND WHAT CRUELTY WOULD THAT BE WITH REGARDING BABY👶JESUS🎄 (just born) I BET (you had the audacity to celebrate 🍾 his birthday) ? THE SON OF GOD THAT CAME TO EARTH 🌎 IN HUMAN FORM TO SAVE SINNERS & REPEATEDLY SAYS TO《 LOVE EARTH OTHER 》 《 LOVE UR NEIGHBOUR AS YOU LOVE YOURSELF 》 BUT NOT IN A MORBID WAY AS UR SCRUFFY LOOKING ACTIVIST DOES
So I’m about the same age as Stephen and every time I hear him talk about this subject I identify. It’s been a struggle for me staying alive through these years. Best of luck to anybody out there in the same situation.

One of the most intelligent interviewers I have ever seen. You gave them space to talk and when it stalled right in there with a spot on question. SOLD
I love Stephen Fry. He is unapologetically himself. So inspiring, creative, and self-deprecating. I find his life story, and indeed his storytelling, quite riveting. I too have a love of language ❤️✨️✨️✨️🤗
Darling Stephen, we, the public, are so very pleased you did not end your life. So many of us first met you when you presented QI. Your demenour, your humour, your self effacing character together with your wit and intelligence captivated millions of us. And, even now, if you check out the replays of your TV appearances, you are still liked and loved and appreciated. Take care and wishing you every possible happiness.
@io ciccio Perhaps you should look inward at our own negativity, and rudeness. People can be kind and genuine with or without your lord, and the opposite true also. Seems to me he has done more soul searching than you. Don't bother to reply unless you have considered 'my' reply. Have a good day.
@angbairdab BUT MUCCHY PEOPLE ARE NOT (brilliant) ESPECIALLY IF THEY DISREGARD THE TEACHINGS OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST ! READ MY COMMENT & REPENT TO THE LORD !
This is one of the most professional podcasts I have listened to. You really let the guest shine to their fullest. How it flows is just magnificent. Well done! :)
@ IS THIS SCRUFFY LOOKING PERSON UR《 MESSIAH 》? IT SOUNDS LIKE IT ! HE MAY SEEM (gentle) BUT IN REALITY IS A BELIGERANT ACTIVIST THAT DOES ILLEGAL PROTESTS IN PROPAGANDA FOR HIS LIFESTYLE ! INTERFERING IN OTHER COUNTRIES LAWS ! HAS NOOOO RESPECT FOR THEM & HAS NOOOO RESPECT FOR GOD'S LAW ! & YOU HAVE (listened to hundreds of hours) TO UR《 MESSIAH 》? AM SORRY TO HEAR THAT ! BUT STILL DON'T KNOW HIM ? 🤔
I have loved Steven since I first saw him with Hugh Laurie in the Bertie Wooster and Jeeves series, which is truly marvelous, for anyone who hasn’t seen it. I hope he continues to be around. Thank you, Mr Fry, for being you.
Such an intelligent, funny, open man. I am from Romania, but I've loved him since I saw the first sketches of Fry and Laurie. Would be nice to see them together now, reminiscing on shared adventures. I just discovered this channel, while I was searching for sketches of Fry. Very nice podcast, very articulate host, allows the guest to speak and listens politely. I subscribed :-)
@Beata Dabrowska INDEED ! ARE YOU REFERRING TO BABY👶JESUS 🎄 (just born) ? THE SON OF GOD THAT CAME TO EARTH IN HUMAN FORM TO SAVE SINNERS ? BECAUSE HE TRULY IS《 AMAZING 》
In my last job of 10 years, now retired, I was always honest with my colleagues about my depression and asked that they tell me if they saw something wrong. As a benefit I made so many friends and was approached by many who were struggling at some point.
@LOOSER ! ONLY INNOCENT BABIES 👶, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, HIS VIRGIN MOTHER MARY & THE SAINTS IN HEAVEN SHOULD BE《 ADORED 》 & CERTAINLY NOT A SCRUFFY LOOKING MORTAL & ACTIVIST SEEKING COMPASSION
Oh my! Never want to lose Stephen Fry in an untimely manner, especially after learning more about him through this interview. I hope to meet him one day. His world of ideas is. a gift to us all
This was truly glorious. I thought my life at boarding school was horrific at 8 and 9. I wanted to die. A few years later our lauandry maid the kindest lady in the the world, a Mrs Hurring, steared me into roller skating God bless her sweet soul. I became an Otago junior roller skating champion in figures aged 11. At 80 I will never forget her I adore Stephen. There is always a great life ahead if you meet the right people.
@Tracesprite @ PLEASE DON'T PATRONISE ME WITH UR (sweet) ARGUMENT ! YOU SAW MY COMMENT BUT DELUTED IT'S VALUE ! & PUT MORE IMPORTANCE , MORE VALUE ON A SCRUFFY LOOKING PERSON, THAT YOU TREAT LIKE A (God) BECAUSE ACCORDING TO YOU HE HAS SUPERIOR QUALITIES (lot of insight, to make contributions, kindness, intelligence to teach us stuff ) BUT SURELY THAT CANNOT BE THE SAME PERSON ?🤔 BECAUSE THE STEPHEN FRY I KNOW IS A BELIGERANT ACTIVIST, THAT GOES AROUND THE WORLD 🌎 DOING ILLEGAL PROTESTS & INSULTING PRESIDENTS, HAS NO RESPECT FOR NATURE, NO RESPECT FOR THE FAMILY, NO RESPECT FOR THE FEMALE BODY BECAUSE HE PREFER MEN ! SO IN REALITY UR (national treasure) MAKES ZERO (contribution) TO SOCIETY ! ALSO, I LIKE TO INFORM YOU THAT (in the beginning) GOD DID NOT CREATE (a wide variety of people) GOD CREATED JUST ADAM & EVE & THE LORD JESUS CHRIST CONFIRMED IT LATER ON BY SAYING《GOD CREATED MAN & WOMAN TO BE TOGETHER....》I LOVE TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS 🎄
@io ciccio Hi Io ciccio, I can see that you really value your relationship with God but it is also good to value a relationship with a person. God gives us friendships and then uses those friendships to teach us stuff e.g. the importance of kindness, how lovely it is to know a person with a lot of insight, the contribution that a practical person can make etc. God created a wide variety of people and we can gain a lot by humbly seeing what is of value in the gifts of their various personalities.
Hello from New Zealand. Oh, Stephen. Your considerable talents having been shared with us for so long has made everyone who has enjoyed your humour & your disarming openness feel as though we know you personally. You have inspired so many people to plough ahead with being just who they are, right out in the open & to enjoy being their unique selves. To lose you, particularly from a personal decision to hurt yourself would punch a huge hole in our personal investment in you to the point where the grief of your loss would physically & mentally harm so many. Stay safe, be with those who love you, keep that wonderful mind creating & especially be good to yourself & stay. Just stay.
@SUCH SENTIMENTAL NONSENSE YOU IS SPOUTING ! THAT SCRUFFY LOOKING FRY HAS NONE OF THE QUALITIES THAT YOU TRYING TO EXPRESS ! HIS BELIGERANT PERSONA & TWISTED IDEAS IS CAUSING MORE CORRUPTION & DELUSION AROUND THE WORLD 🌎
I love Stephen Fry so much. I didn't know a lot of the experiences he spoke about. His use of the phrase "what's the point" is exactly it, that really hit home. It's that exact phrase.
@Kerry Holland IN OTHER WORDS, UR COUNTRY IS SCRAPING THE BOTTOM OF A TALL, SLUDGY BARREL THEN ? 🤔 BECAUSE UR (greatest treasure) DOESN'T SHOW GOOD QUALITIES ! I DON'T BELIEVE THAT INVADING OTHER COUNTRIES & DOING ILLEGAL PROTESTS (for no good cause) & INSULTING THEIR LEADERS IS SOMETHING TO BE (proud) OF ! NEITHER IS TURNING HIS BACK ON NATURE, OR INSULTING CHURCH LEADERS ABOUT DIVERSITY, OR BEING AN ATHEIST THAT CELEBRATE 🍾 CHRISTMAS 🎄 OR HAVING NOOOO RESPECT FOR THE TRADITIONAL FAMILY NUCLEUS OR RESPECT FOR THE FEMALE BODY IS RIGHT ! & THEN GOES TO BED WITH ANOTHER MAN 👨
@io ciccio you described the most perfect and glorious type of person so of course I would call him the greatest treasure. Probably one of the only people my country can be PROUD of
@ FANCY LABELLING A SCRUFFY LOOKING PERSON, A BELIGERANT ACTIVIST, AN ATHEIST THAT WAS CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS, A RUDE PERSON THAT GOES AROUND INSULTING WORLD LEADERS 🌎 THE (greatest treasure) ?😳
A sobering and honest example of how fragile we all are, despite our levels of perception of success - A voice we should all hear and remember his words
Insight into a bipolar brain. He is an important voice for people who share his illness, which is like having your brain hijacked by an unrelenting terrorist squad. It’s hard to articulate it, and even the best psychiatrists have no idea what it’s like unless they’ve lived it. He’s my hero.
Such a profound and vulnerable exchange. It is such a privilege to be privy to this experience. Keep presenting this type of content. Stephen Fry is a difficult guest to top, that is for sure.
We are all programmed by our parents, friends, teachers and it's our life lesson as adults to unravel this and free ourselves. Happiness comes from love for the simple things and keeping the wonder of nature. How do you know you are happy if you don't know sadness. How do you know love if you haven't experienced hate. How do you know peace in yourself if you have not struggled. I love Stephen Fry and his open conversation on many subjects.
I've enjoyed the outpourings of Stephens considerable wit since I wa sa child in the 80's. I love his humour, wit and mind for all its foilbes and wonder. Thanke for this interview.
Full marks to him for being honest and open about his mental health issues. Unfortunately for those of us not well off financially to be able to afford private and/or sustained care or be able to get to safe spaces getting real help through the NHS is now bordering on impossible. Massive waiting times, crisis teams not fit for purpose, local councils and politicians who simply don't care and overworked, often poorly trained and caring impaired staff. Not only is Mental Health treatment a postcode lottery in the UK but it's an out of date, badly staffed, resource lacking part of the NHS that is so underfunded it's incredible. I sincerely hope nobody reading this ever needs to rely on it for genuinely serious issues, it absolutely will fail you.
I'd listen to Stephen Fry read the phone book, so this may not mean much, but I loved this interview, start to finish. What a combination of heart and mind. And this was my first encounter with Steven Bartlett. He also comes across as somebody you'd like to know. And he's got the skill to do a brilliant interview without getting in the way, as can happen so easily. Bravo.
A few times we have genius people like Stephen Fry, where their IQ is through the roof. And there is a fine line between Genius and madness in some cases. The articulate think in different ways that we can never comprehend. And yes I totally get what Stephen is saying about Art.
Great interview! Glad I found this channel. Really well done, intelligent & accessible, and interesting! Stephen Fry is wonderful, such a genuine and generous artist.
One of the, if not THE, most enjoyable interviews I have ever experienced. I always wondered why I felt so much affinity for Stephen Fry and your interview laid the reasons why all out there, bare bones and all. You have me as subscriber for as long as you present the quality of product as I have just witnessed. P.S. Not deleting the phone call from his sister was both clever and admirable. Well done. Very, very well done.
Brilliant interview,and as always Stephen engrosses you with his intellect and wit and insights to the human condition. Long may you continue Stephen!!!
Of all the wonderful transfixing snippets of wisdom in this glorious interview, the weather analogy is one of the ones that really will stay with me. There are few things in life more enjoyable than listening to someone of intellect speaking in such a way that it is at once incredibly impressive and completely understandable.
Fabulous interview. Never really listened to Stephen Fry before but find him such an intelligent and interesting person. Worked in mental health for many years and have my own issues..found this very helpful especially his use of metaphors to describe feelings ❤
I am bipolar too and I can relate to such much of what you're saying. I KNOW what you went thru and I'm so sorry for you but I"m glad you came out the other side.
Whenever l see or hear Stephen Fry, from the days of “Bertie and Wooster” l wonder if Oscar Wilde has reincarnated? Not only his physicality but his brilliance! Always a joy to listen to 😊
@ I DIDN'T LISTEN TO HIM ! WHAT WAS (Wonderful) ABOUT THE INTERVIEW ? & WHAT WAS SOOOO (open about his feelings & thoughts) ? DID HE DISCUSS HIS LIFESTYLE ? HIS PREFERENCE FOR ANOTHER MAN ? THE TRADITIONAL FAMILY ? AS AN ATHEIST, DOES HE STILL CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS ? WHAT WAS HIS (thoughts) ABOUT HIV & OTHER DISEASES ? BECAUSE ONLY RECENTLY ANOTHER GAY U TUBER (@I am that) DISCLOSED TO HIS SUBSCRIBERS THAT HE WAS HIV POSITIVE ! HE SEEMED ALSO (quite relaxed) ABOUT IT & OF COURSE ALL HIS FANS WERE HAPPY (for being soo brave)
I always feel a kindred spirit, I too was unco. I was the quiet withdrawn child but everything else was me! What a wonderfully articulate human. Thank you .
I'm thoroughly enjoying your podcasts and have now subscribed. I like your calm, measured manner which often brings the best out of your guests- others could learn from you in how a podcast should be done😃
I adore Stephen Fry and all he has done that I’ve seen. I’ve read all his books and love hearing his voice through audio books. I bow to his intellect, wishing I had his gifts of intellect. I also see much of my son in his early life except the criminal detour.
Fantastic interview! I know he was pressed for time at the end, but I look forward to the no-doubt intriguing question Mr. Fry wrote for your next guest!
Thoroughly engaging interview, really enjoyed listening and appreciate the time taken in advance to come up with really thoughtful questions around subjects that can be very difficult to approach and discuss in a respectful way. Thanks to all parties involved for creating this excellent content!
Stephen has always been beyond his years , and an empath to the core . We question everything and express ourselves through words , and expression , arts etc . Its a heavy load to carry because of the years of trauma from different aspects of our lives . I love your vlog , its so natural and calm . Love from Ireland .
Empath to the core? Really? Does that include the time he said child sexual abuse survivors should stop their self pity and grow up? He also claims to have prosopagnosia, yet is obviously capable of recognising faces. In my opinion the man is a narcissist.
@io ciccioYou're spouting Russian/Putin propaganda hate mongering. Why are you even watching the interview if it "offends" you so? Or is Putin paying you to spread misinformation and hatred at one of his many Troll Farms?
I've been in the place he's describing. Sometimes it doesn't matter how much you know people care. There can come a point when that isn't enough. Find anything to cling to, no matter how irrational. If you have nobody or you don't care anymore that you do, give yourself something, anything to keep going. Get help. Talk about it. If you've burned every bridge and feel like you can never change, give yourself some room to breathe and talk about it. You'd be surprised how many other people have been there.
What comes out clearly from this interview is that Stephen Fry had, from early childhood, a definite feminine streak in his psychological reactions to his environment and their expression in his behaviors. One of the revealing traits was his prodigious facility with language; another his early distaste of physical exercise, competition, and contacts. That gave him the tools and the time to contribute to culture and the fine analysis of his feelings and preferences. Here, his confession seems to resonate much more with women than men, and rightly so. Something that is easy to check by just reviewing the comments. His personality and preferences developed along with the early structure of his brain (primarily his limbic system, the "center" of emotions) and the impact of his experiences during childhood and adolescence. All this contributed to the wonderfully complex development of his prefrontal cortex as an adult. And made him the media icon he's become.
Brilliant interview. I would love to sit and listen to a conversation between Stephen Fry and the poetic genius he played Oscar Wilde. Now that would be something
Really enjoyed this conversation. My stepfather was a legendary comedian in his day and suffered terribly with mental health issues. As a child, in manic mode he was the most wonderful person to be around and in dark, lost and lonely mode, he taught me so much about the human condition and the importance of unconditional love, good humour and how to stay alive when furniture is flying! I totally agree with the observation about a difference in the eyes..always present where there is an imbalance or childhood trauma. My autistic brother could always see the mood switch coming on, he would say, 'Look out, he's gone all black on us'. The same impenetrable stare that was in the eyes of someone who, many years later, almost removed me from this earth. I should have known not to open the door! 🤣 Anyway, thank you, it was poignant for me to listen Stephen, he reminds me of my stepfather in a lovely way.😘🎶
Stephen is one of my favourite people. I love him so much. So glad we have geniuses like him around... an infinite source of inspiration, hope and gratitude.
BUT WHAT PURPOSE DOES UR (genius) SCRUFFY LOOKING FRY SERVE ? (I love him sooo much) ? (an infinite source of inspiration, hope & gratitude) ? THAT COULD BE A PRAYER DEDICATED TO BABY 👶 JESUS JUST BORN 🎄
From the East Coast, US. I love this interview with Stephen Frye! He has a wonderful grasp of language and expression. I was particularly interested in the segment where he talked about artist who had to deal with mental illness but did not want to take any of the drugs because they felt some how it was take away from their ability to feel so strongly and write or create. This was a conversation I had many years ago with my MD. Anyway thank you for this fabulous interview.
Loved this interview! As someone who suffers from severe depression and anxiety, the "what's the point?" question truly resonates with me as I find myself asking the same question on a daily basis.
If I had met Stephen I’m sure we would have been great friends. I’m excited by languages, foreign, medical, and all manner of of communication. My memory for words was quite amazing. I tend to skip over small talk and make deep connectIons with strangers in record time. It would be wonderful to cross paths with him and make a connection❤️💋👩🏻🎨
My 13 year old daughter has recently tried to commit suicide and we then found she had been cutting herself too. We don't think she is manic depressive as she doesn't seem to have the manic side but we are still waiting for doctors to get us an appointment. We have talked and we try to understand and be there, but it's easy to feel frustrated. Not because we don't care or feel angry at her, but because with all honesty we don't know how to take the sadness she feels and we feel frustrated and useless...and basically a failure as parents. So far, the best we can do is keep an eye on her, talk to her, accept how she feels and be there for her. And try to smile when all you want to do is cry inside. To all of you who are feeling depressed or are with someone who is- the warmest of hugs. Its tough 😪
So sorry you are all going through it. I assume you have looked into her social life and social media use? Kids are so good at hiding what is going on in their lives, and so sensitive to the smallest slight at this age, it is really scary what can cause them go off the rails sometimes.
If she happens to have naturally low serotonin at present, it's no more your fault than if she had naturally low insulin and was diabetic. We all have a 'weakest point' in our constitution. And the cutting might not just be low self-esteem or even trying to make invisible mental pain visible physical pain. It can also be 'self medicating'. By triggering the flow of endorphins that provide BOTH types of pain relief. (Stroking and cuddling to produce oxytocin is also effective. Rubbing someone's back especially. That's why parents instinctively soothe babies that way.) Diagnosis of bipolar can take time. Often depression is diagnosed first. And schizoaffective takes even longer. But be reassured. A lot of folk with any of these, get a medication mix that balances them for many years to a very good quality of life, full time job, study, marriage etc. I pray things improve for you all.
@DISGRACEFUL ! TO (adore) A SCRUFFY LOOKING BLOKE ! ONLY INNOCENT BABIES 👶👶 😇 THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, HIS VIRGIN MOTHER MARY & THE SAINTS & ANGELS IN HEAVEN SHOULD BE《 ADORED 》
i have almost all of stephen's books ❤ his poetry book and mythology books are exquisite...i'm looking forward to 'troy' soon...his role in 'v for vendetta' i loved...i hope he is in a better place...i hope he understands that you cannot please anyone but yourself...he is a beautiful human being and a treasure
Great interview! I was curious about Fry’s life patterns. They are very unique, so I looked up his birth chart and the transits that were happening around the time of his “getting lost” episode - I believe it was around June 1993. (I’m an amateur Astrologer). It was indeed a very intense time for him. He has an intense birth chart anyway. My suggestion is for him to look into his patterns with a professional astrologer. It would be of interest to him.
I truly love Stephen Fry since 1993 when we got BBC entertainment in my former communist country. I saw him in Blackadder and couldn't believe his charm and his talent. Then a bit of Laurie and Fry and Jeeves and as a lawyer. Then out of the blue BBC disappeared. Luckily we got KZclip and were able to find the dear ones again. As for Stephen, he is an international treasure.
Stephen. I have such enormous respect for you and the way you carry yourself in your life. Many of my close family including myself have suffered mental health issues. My son's father and my son suffering in a similar way of course their personalities with their own unique style. It takes an enormous amount of energy to traverse the highs and lows. My son telling me that I don't understand the physiology of it which is true as we are afflicted differently. His heart races at the mere thought of social performance as far as interaction with humanity It can be exhausting. For me a lot of it is derived from these silly religious stories having been thrust upon me. My respect for Hugh is deepened by the friendship you obviously both share and I imagine the support he has shared. I tired to think of an an acronym for CEO and couldn't think. I think of one.The next thing I heard was ,*back to jail*. My heart sank. Of course my brain has a wonderful way of weaving bits of information or story into infinite possibilities so goodness knows what happened. Do remember to turn the microphones off though as some of us do have a ridiculous sensitivity to sound. Have a pleasant Christmas and a festive new year to you all. OXO. Hoping that all is well in your world. BE WELL.
Stephen Fry, one of the most intelligent souls on this planet. I absolutely adore him and wish him all the best moving forward. Sending much love to him xx
YOU IS A DISGRACE IN (absolutely adore him) A SCRUFFY LOOKING BELIGERANT ACTIVIST THAT YOU HAVE TURNED IN TO A (god) AND IF HE WAS THAT (intelligent) HE WOULD KNOW NOT TO INDULGE IN HIS LIFESTYLE
He is spot on about not being able to share depression with most people who would consider themselves “there for you”. Most people freak out at the words suicide or depression and get angry at you for your sadness. It’s so lonely being manic- depressive. It’s impossible to explain or describe, but it just takes over and suddenly you forget what normal feels like.
It's difficult to find an accurately honest way to discuss any thoughts even in the neighborhood of the dreaded "S" word. Even when you're not literally planning or contemplating acting on it, just desire a truthful and honest discussion about the inevitable dark & intrusive thoughts I believe EVERY human being has, laying out the merits or doubts within the existential crisis and dread which any self aware and thoughtful person unavoidably contains without the paranoia & fear of a permanent stigma, or a professional fulfilling an "obligation", . . . In a simplified nutshell, how to approach an honest and mature conversation without fear of being hospitalized or immediately considered a threat. Which would only make one's state of mind even more difficult, pushed toward further isolation & then potentially at risk. But because certain individuals have acted, and it is too real of an issue for many, it's a nearly impossible subject to bring out into the open unless your already in like minded company. So many taboo and culturally challenging subjects which need to be discussed and pondered over, but with the understanding that one is not necessarily advocating them or wishing to be associated with them. Just desire open and uncensored discourse or analysis.
If you enjoyed this conversation, please do me a little favour and like the video 👍 By doing that, you’re showing this conversation to even more people ❤
“You set me up” might sound like a comedy, but so does ‘hello mum, got any spare home cooked chickpea curry before I shoot at you with a crossbow from an elevated platform on the vikings, whilst looking like your cousin’s boyfriend’.
Nifty!

I’m a bit disappointed about his comments about Musk and free speech. Seems out of kilter with other things he’s said.
You rock!
@josette bushell-mingo I completely agree josette. Very well said.
This interview made me subscribe
Moving, life affirming- sensitively led..
May all our journeys bring us to our moment of life and our worth ❤
His secret life of a manic depressive. You helped me get better.
I felt the same way. He seems like a old friend.
@El Dona BUT IF UR SCRUFFY LOOKING (national treasure) HAD ANY (stoicism) QUALITIES, HE WOULD HAVE REFRAINED FROM HIS LIFESTYLE 😜
I love Stephen Fry, the man is an incredible human being.
WHAT'S IS SOOOO (incredible) ABOUT THAT SCRUFFY LOOKING PERSON ?
I could listen to this conversation all day. Stephen Fry’s existence almost makes up for…well…everything. Love him so much.
@WELL, ALL I CAN SAY IS LITTLE THINGS PLEASE LITTLE MINDS 🙂 ☺
@WELL, ALL I CAN SAY IS LITTLE THINGS PLEASE LITTLE MINDS 🙂 ☺
THE SON OF GOD THAT CAME TO EARTH 🌎 IN HUMAN FORM TO SAVE SINNERS & REPEATEDLY SAYS TO《 LOVE EARTH OTHER 》 《 LOVE UR NEIGHBOUR AS YOU LOVE YOURSELF 》 BUT NOT IN A MORBID WAY AS UR SCRUFFY LOOKING ACTIVIST DOES
@Leda Swan The religion of Jesus Christ is love and truth
@DougyAs opposed to the vicious cruelty of religion
Humility!!!!!!!!?
So I’m about the same age as Stephen and every time I hear him talk about this subject I identify. It’s been a struggle for me staying alive through these years. Best of luck to anybody out there in the same situation.
One of the most intelligent interviewers I have ever seen. You gave them space to talk and when it stalled right in there with a spot on question. SOLD
@io ciccio still here? I wonder why!
@ BUT WHO IS (intelligent) ?
I love Stephen Fry. He is unapologetically himself. So inspiring, creative, and self-deprecating. I find his life story, and indeed his storytelling, quite riveting. I too have a love of language ❤️✨️✨️✨️🤗
@io ciccio
Why are you shouting dear boy we can read you loud and clear 😉
BEING BOTH GIFTED, I SUGGEST THAT YOU BOTH SPEAK TO GOD THEN 😉
Darling Stephen, we, the public, are so very pleased you did not end your life. So many of us first met you when you presented QI. Your demenour, your humour, your self effacing character together with your wit and intelligence captivated millions of us. And, even now, if you check out the replays of your TV appearances, you are still liked and loved and appreciated. Take care and wishing you every possible happiness.
@io ciccio Mr.Fry is a better person than you will ever be. Judgemental trolls are beneath him. The universe is a better place with him in it.
I first saw Stephen on QI. What an amazing , intelligent , delightful person. Just love him. 🥰👏🙏😻
@Owen Sims brilliant 👏👌😄😍
This is one of the most professional podcasts I have listened to. You really let the guest shine to their fullest. How it flows is just magnificent. Well done! :)
@io ciccio you are, aren't you? So sad!!
@joesr31 & DISTORTED
With stephen fry he is a pretty easy guest haha, whatever he says is always so insightful
had the EXACT same thought. well done!
@io ciccio Sorry, I simply don’t pay attention to arguments that have homophobia as the core
Love the mind of this man and his gentle and empathetic character. Listened and watched hundreds of hours of his "expressions". Tremendous human.
His mind is a sick sewer of depravity
The way Stephen articulates mental health issues is always ever so insightful. Could listen to him talk forever.
Stephen talks and I'm all ears. Always. Thank you for this interview, Steven and Stephen.
Amazing ❤
SO, SOMEONE ELSE HAS BEEN INDOCTRINATED BY THAT SCRUFFY LOOKING FRY 🤔?
In my last job of 10 years, now retired, I was always honest with my colleagues about my depression and asked that they tell me if they saw something wrong. As a benefit I made so many friends and was approached by many who were struggling at some point.
Genuinely adore Stephen. I wish nothing but happiness for him.
He is a nonce you know.
@io ciccio There is no lord, made up historic stories your brain can't comprehend.
His world of ideas is. a gift to us all
@io ciccio 🔥⚡👋👏
LIER ! ( his world of ideas) IS A DISASTER !
@io ciccio haha, says the clown here
@Tracesprite @ PLEASE DON'T PATRONISE ME WITH UR (sweet) ARGUMENT !
Good on you for rolling your skates over your depression!
@Christine Buckingham exactly what I was going to say.
I truly believe that being on stage creates a deep connection between you and the audience, which is what he missed as a child. ❤
Stephen is an absolute Gem I can relate so much to the things he says …. He is a real human being
@Chris Cain he obviously thrives on attention. Shouting and religious mumbo jumbo are a thing with him!
@io ciccio I don’t understand what you are saying ?
JUST A MUCCHY (gem) THAT IS DELUSIONAL JUST LIKE YOU 👍 ALSO, A (real human being) HAS RESPECT FOR A WOMAN 👩
What an outstanding interview, especially as encouragement for persons with the same diagnosis like me. Thank you. Subscribing.
What an honest wonderful man who I’ve always loved and admired
@io ciccio 🔥⚡
@BUT NOT TRUE !
Fry is one of the greatest treasures. I sincerely hope he’s found his peace and happiness
Brilliant interview, Stephen Fry is an intriguing and truly loveable character, found this informative while leaving space for contemplation
A sobering and honest example of how fragile we all are, despite our levels of perception of success - A voice we should all hear and remember his words
@io ciccio you are very hateful
@BUT I DON'T WANT TO (remember) HIS WORDS ! I LIKE TO REMEMBER JESUS CHRIST WORDS
Very well put. Remarkable how fragile we all are.
But we must all play our part. However that looks.
Wonderfully put,
Thank you
Insight into a bipolar brain.
@ AND A SCRUFFY LOOKING BOOORING 1
The guy we all want as a neighbour.....kind, gentle and generous
@Lesley Hughes I’m not judging him because I have the same issues. People would not want to live round me in those conditions
@Blondie 🤦♀️🤦♂️🤷♀️🤷♂️
What if he was in one of his extreme states?
@Andrew Martin 🤔🙄
@io ciccio 🤡
I find him just utterly lovable! ❤ What he said about artists is so right on!
@ I CALL THAT AN UNEALTHY INFACTUATION !
Bravo.
Stephen Fry an amazing human, his knowledge of language is wonderful.
@io ciccio you have literally tried your hardest to comment hateful things about this lovely man, how sad
@ BUT IS HE ? 🤔
Definitely one of my favourite episodes.didnt want it to end. I could listen to him talk forever. Such an exceptional mind. ❤️
@io ciccio ... I found this for you ... 🤗 ... : - kzclip.net/video/69F7GhASOdM/бейне.html
@io ciccio
Like your bitchy little comments?
@LITTLE THINGS PLEASE LITTLE MINDS
@io ciccio Another Christian trying to silence others. You people have no credibility and will soon collapse under the weight of your false claims!
@ JUST DELUSIONAL ! & STOP ✋ UR SUPERLATIVES, PLEASE !
Remember,we love you Stephen,don't change,such an intelligent gent,great interview.Thank you.
Brilliant interview,and as always Stephen engrosses you with his intellect and wit and insights to the human condition. Long may you continue Stephen!!!
This is one of the most brilliant interviews i have ever listened to
@CAN YOU TELL ME A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE BRILLIANCE ?
Of all the wonderful transfixing snippets of wisdom in this glorious interview, the weather analogy is one of the ones that really will stay with me.
There are few things in life more enjoyable than listening to someone of intellect speaking in such a way that it is at once incredibly impressive and completely understandable.
Fabulous interview. Never really listened to Stephen Fry before but find him such an intelligent and interesting person. Worked in mental health for many years and have my own issues..found this very helpful especially his use of metaphors to describe feelings ❤
A beautiful mind, a wonderful man...a genius never to be replicated.
@io ciccio 😆😅🤣😂
@Faraway So close 🤔🙄🤥
@io ciccio 🔥⚡
@io ciccio are You ill?
@io ciccio ... a gift to you, from one of the intellectual Gods ... 🤗 ... : - kzclip.net/video/69F7GhASOdM/бейне.html
Loved this episode, amazing. It feels as if they're chatting over coffee and not an actual podcast.
I am bipolar too and I can relate to such much of what you're saying. I KNOW what you went thru and I'm so sorry for you but I"m glad you came out the other side.
Stephen Fry is such a great interviewee
Whenever l see or hear Stephen Fry, from the days of “Bertie and Wooster” l wonder if Oscar Wilde has reincarnated? Not only his physicality but his brilliance! Always a joy to listen to 😊
I just love Steven fry and being open about his life hopefully will help others
My favorite public person - serving up this amazing conversational cocktail of wit and vulnerability.
He is a pervert you know.
Wonderful interview, I've never seen Stephen Fry quite so relaxed and open about his feelings and thoughts. Thoroughly enjoyed it thank you.
Thank you .
Engrossing, insightful and honest interview. Thank you
What a brilliant man. And such a great interview. Thank you.
@DULL, BOOORING, SELF CENTERED, SCRUFFY LOOKING BLOKE
I have a huge respect, love & admiration for Stephen Fry wonderful human being. Great gentleman 👏.
I was addicted to high-level rock-climbing, an adrenalin sport, at college - I am now 74, but what Stephen says rings many bells. Now I am much calmer
Delightfull interview , makes me feel “normal” in my awkwardness or my normality , thanx
Good podcast,interview.
Mr Stephen Fry is, someone admired, for quite a long time.
Wish you well Mr Fry.✌🏾
WoW Again a fantastic conversation between 2 true gentlemen! Loved every minute and have shared it far and wide…👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💕💕
Thank you for this great, though provokng and sincere interview! Great job!!!👍👏👏👏🙌
@io ciccio
Who hurt you, poor thing?
@io ciccioYou're spouting Russian/Putin propaganda hate mongering. Why are you even watching the interview if it "offends" you so? Or is Putin paying you to spread misinformation and hatred at one of his many Troll Farms?
@Helene O'Cleary @ WHO IS YOU ? 🤔
How judgemental!
🤣 Anyway, thank you, it was poignant for me to listen Stephen, he reminds me of my stepfather in a lovely way.😘🎶
" Don't take my devils away because my angels will fly away aswell " - absolutely awesome
Stephen Fry is a really interesting character and v articulate, but the interviewer is also really excellent.
A wonderfully articulate man. There is a type of sadness that comes with this type of intelligence.
Really good interview lots of that resonated with me with the mental health points
I adore Stephen Fry and am so pleased that I came across this fantastic interview! So brilliant! Thanks you for this high quality program!
@ONLY LOW (quality) FOR ME AM AFRAID 😨
He is a absolute treasure, full of wisdom and kind enough to share, making the world a better place 💖
@LIAR ! THE WORLD 🌎 IS MORE CORRUPT
a great interview! Both have a real talent for thought IQ and language. Throughly enjoyed
I admire him for being able to bare his soul for all to see. I couldn't. I think most also couldn't. Ric from Oz 👦🇦🇺👍😎
What a wonderful interviewer great questions love voice. I could have listened to him all day. Wonderful program 👏.
That's why parents instinctively soothe babies that way.)
Diagnosis of bipolar can take time. Often depression is diagnosed first. And schizoaffective takes even longer. But be reassured. A lot of folk with any of these, get a medication mix that balances them for many years to a very good quality of life, full time job, study, marriage etc.
I pray things improve for you all.
Thank you for this interview. I could watch, listen and read Stephen anytime
Just adore him so very much. Thank you both ❤
@DISGRACEFUL ! TO (adore) A SCRUFFY LOOKING BLOKE ! ONLY INNOCENT BABIES 👶👶 😇 THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, HIS VIRGIN MOTHER MARY & THE SAINTS & ANGELS IN HEAVEN SHOULD BE《 ADORED 》

His voice is amazing calm love love to hear him speak ❤️
LITTLE THINGS PLEASE LITTLE MINDS
i have almost all of stephen's books ❤ his poetry book and mythology books are exquisite...i'm looking forward to 'troy' soon...his role in 'v for vendetta' i loved...i hope he is in a better place...i hope he understands that you cannot please anyone but yourself...he is a beautiful human being and a treasure
I love Stephen Fry ! 💕 Thank you for this interview !
@ BUT WHY ?
@ BUT WHY ?
Great interview! I was curious about Fry’s life patterns. They are very unique, so I looked up his birth chart and the transits that were happening around the time of his “getting lost” episode - I believe it was around June 1993. (I’m an amateur Astrologer). It was indeed a very intense time for him. He has an intense birth chart anyway. My suggestion is for him to look into his patterns with a professional astrologer. It would be of interest to him.
Was later than that. November 1993 at earliest.
Have always been fascinated by Stephen. Great interview 👍
His heart races at the mere thought of social performance as far as interaction with humanity
It can be exhausting. BE WELL.
Steven so glad your still here! You make the world a better place! I enjoy your work!
ONLY IN UR LITTLE MIND
Stephen Fry, one of the most intelligent souls on this planet. I absolutely adore him and wish him all the best moving forward. Sending much love to him xx
YOU IS A DISGRACE IN (absolutely adore him) A SCRUFFY LOOKING BELIGERANT ACTIVIST THAT YOU HAVE TURNED IN TO A (god) AND IF HE WAS THAT (intelligent) HE WOULD KNOW NOT TO INDULGE IN HIS LIFESTYLE
Subscription earned, thank you to both you & Stephen, a very insightful video. Thank you for the upload
Oh yes...the texture of a full life
