now you guys have to listen to sad songs in a hotel room that just came out! AND GRACIE ABRAMS!
@Chats & ReactsLISTEN TO SAD SONGS IN A HOTEL ROOM PLS PLS PLS HIS LYRICAL SKILL IMPROVED SM
@Chats & Reactsyou should listen to Sad songs in a hotel room
Yes! NEED a reaction to his EP. Album will also be out soon!
Yesss! Please do it
I think it was Olivia’s responsibility to tell her fans to back off, especially if her songs aren’t 100% factual. It is up to her to speak out about the conversation going on around her music. Her fans most likely respect her and would listen to her. Before these three songs were released Josh clearly told his fans to not attack Olivia, which was really mature of him and what she should’ve done.
@Imelda Sujely literally nobody is saying that Olivia speaking up would’ve completely stopped the hate, but it’s abt the principle. Everybody admires selena for being able to stick up for Hailey bc yeah she didn’t deserve that treatment, and Olivia doing the same would’ve gained her a lot of respect. It’s definitely shady to see it all happening in front of you and not even saying a single thing abt it. Just bc she’s not obligated by responsibility doesn’t mean that by her choosing silence says something abt her character, at least at the time
Nope I think Olivia did not have to do anything, either way people would not have listened to her kind of like when Selena speaks out to her fans to stop sending hate to Hailey. It didn’t matter what Olivia did or didn’t do it’s not her responsibility! We could say the same thing about Taylor writing songs about her exes and them being attacked by us swifties. It happens lol
@Ana Paula Pires da Cunha the point isn’t that by Olivia asking her fans to stop that all the hate would stop, but it’s the intention of it. Selena has asked fans to stop sending hate, showing that she’s not about that. Josh also asked his fans not to send hate on his behalf when he released his 3 songs after Sour bc he doesn’t stand by that and ‘any fan that does that is not a fan of his’. It’s says a lot abt the person, which would mean much more to Josh than what any fan/hater says seeing as he had a close relationship to her for almost 2 years.
I understand what you are saying but i don't agree. With this Selena/Hailey/Justin situation it's so clear that people do not care about what artists are saying about the situation. Selena and Hailey said that everything was good between then and people still attacked both of them (in my opinion it was even worse when Hailey talked about it in that podcast). They were in the same fucking photo HUGGING each other and people still attacked. In some cases the best is just stay quiet and don't address the situation to anybody.
@kmkill just because they can’t do the right thing doesn’t mean others shouldn’t
Something that hits even harder when you know the context of the song is that Josh didn't have a relationship with his mother. So her calling himworried because she was seeing death threats online is just that much more heartbreaking
Can't you see this was a planed. It's was olives and that pud puller did the to gain power turned fans against Sabrina just for fam look how the hurt Sabrina call on every one to boycott olives and that worm Mr pud puller
@Vi He literally says in his interview on the Zach Sang show that he wasn't joking when he said he thought Harry Styles was hot, but he also didn't immediately realize that he had just come out publicly by making that comment. He went along with it because he didn't care about people knowing. Zach Sang asks him explicitly if he's queer and Josh directly answers yes.
@Vi he came out on instagram last year actually!
@Vi he came out on instagram and said it wasn’t a joke ?
Bonny can we please get a SOUR breakdown plzzzz i beg u
joshua is such a good kid, and he is so badly misjudged by the media. did you know that for this ep he donated $1 for every presave to charity, raising over $20k for mental health organizations? in addition, he donated 100% of the proceeds from crisis to charity. in addition to that, he has donated 100% of all his merch proceeds to the charity since he opened his store in january 2021. in addition to that, he donated portions of every ticket he sold from his tour to charity. in ADDITION, he recently decide to donate 100% of his proceeds from his latest single lifeline to charity. I could go on...
what's interesting is that for crisis, it's not just the profits he gets off pure sales, but every single time the song is monetized the charity gets the money; basically, the charity gets 100% of the perpetuities. meaning videos like this, and every youtube/ tiktok, etc that uses it, and if the song is ever used in a soundtrack, he will get no profit. truly incredible, and you genuinely don't hear other celebrities do things like this, ever. usually other artists will just donate the profit of pure sales, and then after that, they'll begin to earn money off of it. it's a true show of his character, and i think he is paving the way for a lot of artists in the future
@Chats & Reacts PLEASE happier than ever album reaction i am cryingggg 😭😭
@Shreya Mani i love u
@Chats & Reacts he really is! when joshua was 16 he was homeless and living out of his car, so he's talked about how that experience having literally nothing made him want to use his platform to give back more now that he has a relatively successful career.
This is amazing wow
I do think it’s worth mentioning as well that “Set Me Free” is actually in many ways more about processing other traumas in the wake of everything that happened with the Olivia drama. He’d made comments about how much of that song was processing childhood sexual abuse and a relationship he’d had with an older man, and it really put the whole thing in a new light that’s often overshadowed by the Sour of it all. There’s certainly something to be said for how trying to process and write creatively about a difficult emotional situation can force you to reckon with others you haven’t unpacked.
I cannot emphasise enough how SPOT ON THIS IS!! I recently went through a breakup and I was really surprised when it started bringing up a whole bunch of emotions about my relationship with my dad.. 😢
wow I had no idea that is so sad, thank you for sharing!!
That last part is facts.
I don’t follow him super closely and wasn’t aware of that. Thank you sm for that information, it definitely adds more depth to my understanding of his music
their relationship was literally the personification of Exile lyrics "you never gave a warning sign" "I gave so many signs"
TIMESTAMPS:Crisis - 03:43Secret - 20:11Set me Free - 29:38
If you can you should really react to the EP that Joshua released a couple days ago, it's called 'Sad Songs In A Hotel Room'. All bops and i garauntee you will cry.
Olivia is young Taylor, writing songs about her hurt, and Josh is now Taylor, telling his side with respect for the other person like Taylor does in folklore and evermore. And I adore Taylor at every aspect of her life
@Natsu777 YES HE IS
Joshua Bassett is Joshua TAYLOR Bassett. 😌
That is so wise of you to say that!
if you ever get the chance do watch his interview with zach sang. its very long but its so so beautiful and super insighful into everything that is joshua as a person and all his thoughts. it'll help you understand everything even better. joshua bassett deserves the world after everything he went through.
an amazing interview!!
yes! absolutely! that video truly made me realize how sweet and amazing joshua is and how he didn’t deserve any hate
@Tallie N same.
i was just about to say this!
Olivia should have made a statement when Josh and Sabrina received Death threats. An artist do have a responsibility for their art to some degree... She can impact what people say.Now watch the Lifeline music video. About when he ended in the hospital because of All This when his body went Into septic shock, and he had a 30% survival chance. One more thing... Warner Records have been very good at building his career slowly. He seems to get more and more fans by the day... And This EP made alot of Olivia stans Calm down and listen to him also. And his latest EP which you should react to is getting alot of attention on youtube. And he sold out a 500 capacity concert hall in 1 minute. All 3 Shows he did. So with the postponed Shows they will get larger venues cause it seems they underestimatet his popularity. And the album will do good, it will not be as popular as Sour most likely. But it definitly will be a Top 10 on Billboard 200. Cant wait for his album!
Pls the Lifeline MV was so hard to watch. It’s simple but so heart wrenching. 😭
@Charlotte I have not blamed it all on Olivia. Where have I Said that?I have Said at the end of the day an artist have to some extent responsibility to the content they put out. I am a music producer/dj so I feel I can say that. I only have about 15k monthly on Spotify, but No matter the number I have a responsibility also. I didnt blame it on Olivia. Its the sick and twisted minds of people. But.... I dont wanna repeat myself
@Mads Gismerica kanye west and taylor swift?
@Mads Gismerica look you don’t have to tell me all this. I know. But at the end of the day, it is the “fans” fault. To just blame it ALL on Olivia is, again stupid.
@Charlotte No it wouldnt. This situation was pretty different. It was constant. It was never ending. And a waitress playing Deja Vu over and over again when Josh was in a cafe to piss him off... The manager went and apologized to him though, but he Said nothing to them, but she went and apologized Anyway. And you cant agree, and then disagree just moments later. The hate Josh and Sabrina got was out of This World. And it Still goes on... The video recently where someone shout "fuck Joshua Bassett" at an Olivia concert. That DO NOT happen every second with artists. And its grown up fucking people doing This. When Joshua Releases Crisis, Secret and Set Me Free he in advance Said to not give any hate to anyone because of these songs. So This hate dont happen All the time with every artist...Not artists I know of. Only World I can Picture This being a thing is in the hip hop Genre.
i cant help but love josh :( you also must do a gracie abrams or lizzy mcalpine video in the future their recent albums are superior!!!
yes yes yess
I think bonnie made a really significant point about olivia going for the *jugular*. I remember that being my main "issue" with sour, unlike a bittersweet taylor album where she creates a nuanced romantic narrative, acknowledging or leaving room for other perspectives, sour has a lot of accusation like "you betrayed me and I know that you'll never feel sorry" ... and it was sensationalised because she rushed to release an album once she was getting attention which I DO NOT fault her for, it's a smart business move, but it was also all *a lot*.
@Black Screen They we’re getting death threats. If anything they had a bigger reason to be angry about it than a simple breakup. She can always express her feelings but she said so many bad things about him despite that Josh said he would always love her and Sabrina said that they could have been friends in a different life. They were much more mature about it than her and yeah she’s younger but you can’t blame everything on that.
@lizzyyeah, the album was probably just because at her new success people would immediately want more music which she already practically had so she just went for it. i think the lyrics weren’t any more harsh or honest than what him and sabrina are releasing now too though
@Black Screen oh ok, the impression i got from the sour documentary was that she added some songs last minute (like brutal) that weren't pre-written(which I found impressive because even though I follow her and her song writing to *produce* new songs in such a short time is wild). so to me it felt like she was going to release an EP but driver's license was so successful that she realised she should release an album because it was a good career move. but overall I think this led to everything being overwhelming. I don't think she knew how to handle speaking up so she tried to let the drama pass, but I agree she should have spoken up even if only to say "no hate to anyone, this was a snapshot of raw emotion" etc. imo the album also feels one note, possibly because it was created in such a short time frame. so long story short... idk I guess these are more of my two cents lol? I think you're right about her being mislead, but I also just think everything happened so fast that it was all pretty intense and my original post was just to say I think her lyrics went for the jugular because they were very in the moment.
toxic ideology. she should’ve spoke up but she didn’t “rush” an album. she had an EP and already has other songs written so decided to add them on. trying to brand her pain from a breakup which is valid as a “career move” when it’s clear she’s been mislead by her management
She called him a sociopath! And say happy and healthy when she knew he was hospitalised... Granted she never said it's was about him but also knew that everyone would assume it was
While you guys are still waiting for the Midnights release, I would love to see you guys react to five seconds flat by Lizzy McAlpine! It has a lot of deeply offensive things that you both would love!! ❤
100% some offensive lyrics in that one!!!
I think they may have heard it already but would love a breakdown
Every artist is responsible for their fanbase, not their individual fans, but their fanbase in general. You won’t see Joshua’s fans attacking Olivia, or anyone, ever. He has made it clear that is not how he lives his life and not how he wants his fans to live their life. She has not addressed any of these issues with her fan base, hopefully she does one day. We just spread the love. ❤
@karma the cat I agree but we had the whole Better than Revenge situation which she later apologised for and she has now said how the haters aren’t her fans. You’d think that she would have learned from that situation but I think most likely it’s the managers that have stopped them from saying anything and she might not want hate herself. If it is her managing team they’re doing a horrible job and making her look bad. I literally feel guilty for listening to her music. She might apologise in her next album but I hope she still doesn’t make her look like a victim again.
they’ve have a sent a good amount of hateful comments/threats to liv too, stan twitter will bring out the worst in everyone bae 😭😭
while i agree it delusional to say they never hate on people when they have sent a good amount of death threats to olivia too. while speaking about it minimizes it it doesn’t prevent it cause it’s just word of mouth.
i adore olivia, and i agree with you that she should have said something and i hope she does bc better late than never? (this is also something that taylor struggles with, so liv might've learned something there?) i dont know. however, i have definitely seen josh fans attack olivia multiple times. i've also definitely seen the reverse, too, bc they both have relatively young fanbases. josh has proven he's mature, i'm sure olivia will get there very soon, and as for the fans.... stans are just gonna keep stanning.
you should def read his GQ article about his song “Set Me Free” it goes into depth about the song and explains the meaning, it’s really personal to him and isn’t just about Olivia
i love olivia's music so much, but i honestly think in her album there were a lot of low blows. like, even just mentioning him seeing a therapist: there's nothing wrong with that but it's his medical history, it's not her place to share info about his private life. and her calling him a sociopath, like wtf??? it's not something to joke about and pls dont use medical terms as an insult. i just think she was insensitive about a few things, especially seeing how much he suffered from it, like having literal heart failure.
All the angry people in the comments are acting like Olivia Rodrigo sat down and wrote this album alone one night and released it the next morning. I don’t care if you’re “only” 17 years old, when you have months and months of deliberation over song lyrics, not to mention an entire team of adults working on the album alongside you, there’s no excuse for how she went about things.
i have never been a fan of olivia because i have always been a huge fan of sabrina and josh. and it’s true the way she said he is a sociopath is horrible because he clearly didn’t do anything wrong and neither did sabrina and she just didn’t think about them at all and let her horrible fans send death threats and hate. when she said good for you, you look happy and healthy is so sad because he clearly wasn’t happy in the hospital dealing with heart failure and septic shock due to stress from hate and death threats. so sad. josh and sabrina are both amazing people and absolutely didn’t deserve any of the hate and death threats they got
yeah honestly she exposed him so much and played the victim (and i'm sure she was hurt and he messed up), but she also hurt him and she messed up too but acted like it was all his fault
omg yeah i agree sm
@HEARTBREAKHOTEL this comment sums it up very well
Hear me out... Sad Songs In a Hotel Room reaction!! I think you guys are going to love it productionwise and all the lyrics are AMAZING, josh's best work so far in my opinion!
I'm so glad how empathetic you guys were with his POV! As a Josh fan who loved them both when HSMTMTS came out and prior to DL, the new wave of Josh support has been very refreshing after such a hard year for him! (PS, the picture of them both at the premier- they both posted it. It was a wild night, but I think they were both acknowledging that the two of them were civil and over the internet narrative version of their story). Josh's latest EP just came out last Friday, so I highly recommend you listen to it!
When you started set me free before secret I almost had a HEART ATTACK 😂 I’m glad you corrected yourselves… It made all difference!
my issue did that yes Olivia made mistakes by not speaking up but it’s weird how some people are trying to paint her as “evil” like she intended to cause a whole drama when in the end she was still a teenager just writing how she felt
yeah but she should’ve told her fans to not spread hate and death threats on her account. she also painted joshua as the villain when he is clearly an amazing guy
You should totally also listen to his ep Sad Songs in a Hotel Room that came out a few days i personally think that his song writing really increased(for lack of a better word it’s 2am) bring tissues trust me
Really interested to hear your thoughts on this one
omg hey michael, fancy seeing you here!
Crisis: 3:44Secret: 20:12Set me free: 29:38
You should've done his new ep!!!!!!!!!!! Sad Songs in a Hotel Room!!!
OMGGG THEY ACTUALLY DID IT!!!! IM SO EXCITED TO WATCH THISSS!!!!
‘Crisis’ always makes me think, since we know Olivia is heavily inspired by Taylor Swift, that she knew the benefit that villainising the ex would have in terms of relatability and popularity, so maybe hyperbolised the situation and didn’t speak out against the hatred being spread - which obviously worked seemingly in her favour.
@Black Screen That literally was her plan tho?? If someone hurts you and u write a song abt it your not gonna make them seem like an Angel your gonna make them look like a bad person. Also it’s 2022 management teams have way less control over what someone posts nowadays, and again if someone is getting death threats I’d personally rather make that stop them to just let it keep going just so I won’t piss off my management team.
@Heloeksks H well no because that person is implying her plan was to villanize him. the media cause drama but y’all would rather put the blame on a teenage girl. i love the “4 words” argument because you all ignore the fact that her management team controls what she’s allowed to do and say. that literally why she switched management last year like
@Black Screen it’s not abt that it’s abt publicity. The reason Drivers License got so big was because of the drama sure it was a good song but tiktok and the internets need to speculate on relashionships is what made it blow up. It’s common sense that every major music label knows abt and uses to their advantage. Olivia couldve tweeted out 4 simple words and the hate would stop and she didn’t. No one’s vilifying her, we’re just pointing out the obvious marketing of her music that she intentionally or not created and supported.
it’s weird that y’all like to assume some teenager planned out a whole scheme to hate on her ex. she’s young and wrote her first album. sure there were some mistakes but why do people try to paint her as a evil person.
@Taylor Fearless Red Reputation Speak now 1989Swift I don’t think Taylor is a bad person but generally she doesn’t know how to communicate her political beliefs/ Views with her fans and the general public. I couldn’t tell you exactly where a fan of hers called a black woman a monkey because it was through IG comments when the Ginny and Georgia drama was going on. Taylor just doesn’t know how or when to speak up properly. When a Nazi group was claiming her as their princess she was silent, when her fans sent death threats to her exs for no reason she was silent but when Nicki Minaj called out the racism and fat phobia in award shows Taylor spoke out and took that as a personal attack. The only way I could describe Taylor is selective which in 2022 for rich white celebrities just isn’t enough.
Just gotta say Sour is not all about him, it's more of a themetic album, than about just one person. She wrote many of the songs before, and it wasn't a secret either, because she had released versions of those songs prior. Regardless, a handful of them were still probably about him.
i love the taylor content obvs but i also love when u guys branch out to new artists as well ❣️ secrets is so catchyy. i would love to see a Five Second Flat by Lizzy Mcalpine reaction, lizzy is super talented and thats one of my favorite albums !!
Olivia's unreleased songs do talk a little bit about her being at fault too, but those didn't made it in the album.
i honestly think that was a move by her label but maybe not…
His interview with Zach Sang is soooo good. Josh is honestly such a kind soul and he definitely went through a lot during the drama. I really recommend watching the interview if you want more tea. It's long but it was super nice to just sit down with my coffee and hear the gossip.
Love this reaction!! Set me free is my favourite of the 3 songs and it's actually not just about olivia but other trauma in his life as well like processing childhood sexual abuse. It really puts the song into a whole new light for me
his more recent ep sad songs in a hotel room is also amazing, about mostly different topics. Its also more complex and interesting sonically
Y’all… imagine if Jake gyllenhal was talented & wrote an album telling his side called “Blue” or some shit 😂😂
I would kill for that Jake babe come through
Lmao “imagine if jake gyllenhal was talented” 💀💀
you got me at imagine lolol
Red (jakes version)
And if it was a cool indie record too! 💙😂💙
You should react to Sad Songs in Hotel Room too. Joshua is a great lyricist ❤️
my boy is so talented. im so happy he is still here and helping so many people with his music and all the money he donates from it
set me free is so emotional and i just love it so much. I also love when you guys react to a bunch of different artist along with Taylor swift!
In an unreleased song by Olivia called ‘victim’ one of the lines are:Let me be the victim of your perfect crimeBathe in my blood so I'm not the bad guy-uyIt'll be in the headlines, all our friends will hate you
@Abner Yates probably. i appreciate her talent so much, but it’s wild that this all came true. ppl want to say it’s only her management/label that wouldn’t let her stop the hate, but i have a feeling she secretly enjoyed seeing him get hated on after feeling so miserable herself. that doesn’t make her a malicious person, just an immature teen as we all use to be. it’s just fucked up that it was so public and she got huge from it.
@chloe chua but this shows that this type of toxic thinking was already on her mind
@chloe chua Idk when they allegedly dated, apparently they broke things off sometime in 2020 and this was uploaded to her Instagram mid 2020. So yeah, it was written before the drama but still within the same timeframe of when Sour/DL was probably being written. Also respectfully, Im not sure how it being written before the albums success makes it less malicious?? If anything, if it was written around the same time as her processing the breakup, it more accurately reflects her true feelings and possible intentions? Which makes it even more damning…Again, we’re all still just making assumptions to some degree, but watching this video reminded me of that song. Imo, while I appreciate Olivia’s songwriting skills and can’t deny she is talented, her lyrics/vibe just come off a little immature and lack perspective/empathy (ability to recognise and distinguish between what she feels vs seeing things for what they actually are). That being said, I was probably the same when I was 15/her age hahah so it’s so understandable and valid.
@Abner Yates this was written looooooooong before any of the dl drama or olivias success so its not at all as malicious as it sounds
i just connected those dots after reading your comment. that's pretty f'd up of her, wow.
omg this was one i never expected on your channel but i’m so excited!! i love joshua bassett (+ olivia rodrigo) but i always think josh deserves way more love, he has some really good music
you should listen to his new ep that came out friday is called sad songs in a hotel room and is just soooo good
Josh has songs coming out left and right. He dropped his EP sad songs in the hotel room very recently. Then in the last week dropped would you love me now? and she said he said she said. he is coming in hot with music! all worth listening to
I loved Olivia as much as the next person last year but I was a Sabrina fan for years beforehand and never got on board with the hate. it rubbed me the wrong way. i was patiently waiting for josh's side and honestly looking back now Olivia should have said something. the marketing of her album destroyed 2 people and hurt them deeply for almost a year and she never came out to say 'stop' not even once. also i've been getting into josh's music for a long while now and have been following him as a person and if you watch his long interview with zach sang and then listen to olivia's unreleased song 'the ones i love the most' she mentions specific things about josh in the lyrics. it all adds up and you will realize that Olivia really was problematic on a quite large scale.
Josh DEFINITELY sounds like shawn mendes, I’ve thought so since the first time I heard him sing… and he’s also talked a lot about the inspiration Harry has been to him!
What I can remember from Sour is that the narrator never claimed that the guy dumped her. The narrator said that they broke up, and the guy jumped so fast onto another relationship ("good for you I guess you moved on really easily", "aint it funny how you run to her the second that we call it quits?) with a "blond girl who always made me doubt", and that made the narrator bitter.
my personal belief was that, allegedly josh and olivia broke up in the middle of their relationship (based on sad breakup type songs they both posted on instagram in the same time frame) before getting back together for a few more months. i think olivia broke up with him the first time, and possibly for the dude mentioned in "secret" and now "used to it" from his new EP. i wouldn't be surprised if josh was the one who broke up with her the 2nd time to get with sabrina. but who knows, maybe olivia really did break up with him both times. its really screwed up of her if she really did literally cheat on josh. at least josh waited until they were broken up to get with sabrina. and olivia even said it herself... "i guess you didn't cheat"
I loved your reactions to this! It’s nice to see people look at things from his perspective and I think Josh is so underrated. It’s also insane that all three of them are so talented lol
love the react, love this ep and love how you respect the three sides of this story, it's really cool to watch and listen to
Thank you so much Bonny & Emily for always making such high quality content. You two are ICONIC and legit turned me into a huge swiftie.
You guys should react to Lizzie McAlpine, she's one of my favorite artists, and id love to see you guys listen to her! I'd recommend her album "Five Seconds Flat"
definitely recommend reading joshua’s GQ article. he talks about “set me free” and once u read what it’s actually about it hurts even more.
Loved this reaction, i like how both of you pause to really undertand the lyrics. Do you plan to react to his new EP as well, Sad Songs in a Hotel Room? It's really good, i cried a little
I know you guys are getting sooo much recommendations and that's overwhelming but Kelsea Ballerini's new album is something you guys should definitely consider to react to. She's part of the TSCU as we all know and the album is just so good.
YESS OMG I'M OBSESSED WITH IT 😭
Even though a lot of this is probably exaggerated for the songs, these songs changed the way I thought and felt about Sour too. Whereas before Sour was the typical “you broke up with me for a prettier girl!”, this new insight lets us know that it was more like “Yes I broke up with you but I’m pissed that you moved on so fast.” It makes so much sense for Olivia to wish that he was heartbroken even though shes the one who had to cut it off. Interestinggg
because she states how he was talking to another girl. why would she stay in that?
PLEASE REACT TO ALL OF HIS EPS 😭😭😭 they’re amazing
I think now that we have a bit of all three perspectives it would be an interesting time to do a "sour revisit" or "breakdown"... because listening to certain lyrics having watched the sour documentary + sabrina's album + josh's ep would be a different experience. not to feed the drama but just to think about sour beyond our initial reactions.
they should do that but first listen to sad songs in a hotel room bc i want them to hear used to it as well
"I like it for the tea value" had me in stitches 😂
y’all HAVE to check out this is what it feels like by gracie abrams!! as well as her minor ep which is what inspired liv to write sour!!
Joshua actually almost died due to heart failure because of stress when all of this blew up. Both him and Sabrina started getting bombarded with hate out of nowhere by thousands of people on the internet. I can't imagine how that must feel, seeing the image of who you are being shifted all of the sudden and not being able to do anything about it. I love Olivia, and I think that every artist should be able express their most raw feelings through their art, but I just wished people knew that they're are not part of Olivia life. That they don't know the full story, what song is about who, or if it's all completely biographical (which she said it's not). Songs are a a way to contain your feelings and create something beautiful out of it, but that's all that is. People should NEVER take matters into their on hands and affect others lives like this, receiving death is threats unjustifiable to me. The only good thing that came out of this mess is great art... Let's hope next time we'll be able to manage this type of situation better.
Also just have to point out that I've never been on anyone's side on this, I was just enjoying the music coming from all sides but to me, not making a statement to stop the hate is irredeemable. Not only was it mean comments about what was just a teenage relationship, it was also death threats, it was also horrible comments about his sexuality, it was also disgusting comments about his childhood sexual abuse experience, it was also harassment in real life when simply going into a coffee shop. Not that she can really control the fans, but a simple statement could've gone a long way.
When he says in Set Me Free "wasn't sure I survived, never felt so weak", he actually almost died having a septic shock and heart failure, after 2 days Driver's license was released. And he said he was sure stress had part on it.And he talk about it in his new album Sad songs in a hotel room
Also, don’t know if any already mentioned this, but Olivia has an unreleased song called “victim” and she sings about how she wishes she was the victim or something! Don’t know if that’s about Her breakup! But it is interesting! Like I said before, regret is just as painful as heartbreak,
that was written before them
@Pristine Whens!it’s because he was talking to another girl. not because she didn’t something
@Pristine Whens! exactly! but that was only in interviews, which gp probably doesn’t read. if you only listen to the songs and look at social media, she seems completely innocent
@Jenna B right!? She also mentions a few times that some of it was her fault. And heartbreak is a “two-way street” or something
this! also her unreleased song “ones i love” talks about how she messed up in the relationship. i hate that it was scrapped bc it would’ve probably helped ppl realize she wasn’t completely innocent like the sour narrative says
so glad y’all are doing this! you gotta check out his most recent ep sad songs in a hotel room that just dropped friday!
In set me free, the lyrics in the chorus in comparison with the empathetic verse reminds me of Sabrina’s line in how many things “it hurt you so bad hurting me, you really came to me for sympathy”. It perfectly shows the two sides, how she may see this as him wanting sympathy and he seeing it as her taking pleasure in his pain.
There’s a part in ‘favorite crime’ where she talks about being to blame as well with “1 heart broke 4 hands bloody” and being his ‘accomplice’
@Charlotte i’m pretty sure all she said on live was that she was challenging herself to write a song a day. so we don’t know if it’s a real story or not
@GiuliaC nope definitely not. I don’t like that song so I don’t know anything about it
@Charlotte are you sure you are not confusing it with Gayle and abcdefu?
@GiuliaC it was a live stream with someone who gave her the concept I believe or someone else gave it her and then she played it on the live. I’ll try find it but I tried before but couldn’t.
@Charlotte how interesting! Where did she say that?I believe all Olivia's songs are very 'embellished', and this is a clear example of that. She is a great songwriter. I still see 'victim' as the precursor of 'favourite crime'.
I’m so happy that you reacted to this, josh is so incredibly talented and his lyrics in this ep are so raw and come from a place of blunt pain. I wish more people gave him a chance, hear his story and take it as it is because he too has something to say. I absolutely adore both Olivia and Josh, was a fan before all this drama and it was saddening seeing people collectively go up against one of them. They were both kids and - despite believing that some of liv’s decisions made the situation play out the way it did, horribly so - people definitely shouldn’t have gotten involved in what was a normal, faulted relationship between teenagers. At the end of the day, it was all a lot. Thank you for this lovely reaction, found myself sharing the same thoughts and feelings. I absolutely love how you review everything so throughly, and go over lyrics while explaining the potential reason behind them. Keep up the good work! I would really love if you reacted to Josh’s newest EP ‘Sad songs in a hotel room’, every single track is beautifully produced and the lyrics are heartbreakingly honest. One of my favorite josh’s project so far
React to his latest EP. it is so good
Guys u just have to listen to Lifeline from his new EP it absolutely wrecked me
he's also keeping her secret in a way because olivia specifically mentioned "that blonde girl" whereas joshua never gives anymore details on her other relationship
the “blonde girl” lyrics was changed by her producer because it wouldn’t logically make sense. this just proves y’all wanna assume the worst
loved this!! you could listen to his new EP sad song in a hotel rooms which is more recent to understand him a little better
I know it's not the kind of content y'all do but I recommed watching Josh's interview with Zach Sang, it really gives a look into his perspective about the past year, the whole public situation, as well as a lot of other stuff. Again it's just his view of it; not saying his is the right version of events but also not saying it isn't either, there's always so many sides to every story, so this is just his. But I really recommend it, it actually motivated me to start going to therapy myself.
ok watching this back i have a few things to say first definitely watch the zach sang interview bc he talks about this ep but also the abuse he suffered and the hate as well. i think it’d be nice to see his personality and what kind of person he is before doing any more of his music. as a josh fan i can say he cry’s like everyday😭 he is so extremely sensitive. i highly recommend his new ep sad songs in a hotel room i wanted to give a background on each song for context before you listen (if you haven’t yet) so to start: no spoilers btwsad songs in a hotel room: i’m pretty sure he wrote this around october- december of last year and it definitely seems to be about sab and there break up. it’s pretty simple LA: so this song he actually preformed early last year. it definitely touches on the emotional stuff you guys were talking about and i think it’d kind of make more sense and the song definitely touches on how he felt during that drama period of his life. used to it: definitely about olivia i mean i can’t sit here and say it’s not😭 the song touches on that time he was hospitalized and also touches more on their relationship and definitely connects to secret. smoke slow: this is about a whole different person i have no clue who it’s about but it’s an unrequited love situation. lifeline: this is a song to his mom about his hospitalization all in due time: definitely just about mental health briefly maybe touches on like being able to move on from the drama also after this ep i recommend checking out his first ep he released early last year and part of the reason i want you to listen is bc he references a song on their in his newest song which i think will be on debut album so i really just want y’all to get the reference😭 i’m going to do a lil rundown of these tracks bc they sound like they’re about that situation but they aren’t so it’s important sorry: he wrote this about his friends relationship do it all again: i have no clue who this is about it’s rumored to be olivia it’s also rumored to be a song he wrote for hsmtmts not sure i’d go with the first one tbh but no one actually knows. he first posted it january of 2020 so take that as you willlie lie lie: so he released this song a few days after driver’s license but he announced it before so ppl thought it was a response song but it wasn’t. he wrote it in 2019 and it’s about a friend of his. the day he released this song was the day he was hospitalized. just rough. only a matter of time: he wrote this the summer of 2020 and it’s about a situation he was going through on social media of course. he’s been getting harassed since 2020. i won’t bring back up what it’s about but i think that was definitely the start of him not liking social media. he wrote this in like 20 minutes and it’s one of his best.telling myself: i think he wrote this in 2018 about his first gf from what i remember but it’s also been awhile. this song was never meant to be on the ep. “we both know” featuring sabrina was supposed to be the song but he took it off bc of drama. it was leaked tho… great song and i wish it was released heaven is you: this song was written by him and sabrina. it’s a cute songalso he dropped a song called “would you love me now?” and well i know who i think it’s about lol but i won’t say. all that i will say is he wrote it in august after the premiere and pay attention to the song he references🤭 there’s also another song that connects to that title reference. also a few other things firstly about sour a lot of those songs were written after drivers license came out for one which would’ve been almost a year after that breakup. she said deja vu is a made up situation and also happier was written way before her and josh dated. i also think the interesting thing about driver’s license is her producer telling her to change brunette to blonde bc if it was originally brunette that makes no sense. the only girl he was with after olivia was and still is sabrina. he was never with a brunette girl. so interesting…secondly about the sabrina thing all i meant is some of those songs aren’t about josh they’re about griffin which is a guy she was in a toxic relationship with right before josh yk the “complicated ex” and he was so shitty. there’s that but also the songs bad 4 business and nonsense you wouldn’t think they’re about josh right… well she teased bad 4 business in the skin music video. she wrote both those songs when she was with josh not only that but she recently said when she wrote nonsense and that was also the same time. i just think the interesting thing is they’re put after the breakup songs yk it makes you think they’re about a new guy but nope. idk just interesting. it’d be cool if you did his entire discography or i mean at least the eps bc he does have stand alone singles before his album drops (which i said). i think his album will drop december or january if he already released the first single. also what’s so crazy about his debut ep the self titled one is so many songs relate to his life now and the drama… it’s so damn crazy if you do do this first ep i would suggest not really speculating much. the complimenting thing also makes zero sense to me. he compliments somebody in every room he walks into. he used to say olivia was a disney princess. he congratulated her publicly on driver’s license and deja vu and always said he was proud of her even after all that.
Could you please react to his new EP Sad songs in a hotel room and/or Lizzy Mcalpine's album 5 seconds flat? : )
If you haven’t already watched it, i HIGHLY reccomend watching the interview with zach sang. yeah r shows how much joshua has been through and how truly amazing of a person he is. he talks about the abuse he endured in his childhood, 2021 dealing with the hate and stress of drivers license and how kind and loving and well spoken he is
You should really check out his discography! He really IS versatile and the chronology of his songs really shows the chronology of their relationship and he is so talented and underrated
This whole situation always reminds me of when Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas were writing songs back and forth against each other. It was slower because back then we had to wait for regular releases, and obviously we didn’t get the third perspective, but it just makes me think about how situation really do repeat! Especially with the parallels between Taylor and Olivia!
WE NEED JOSHUA'S ALBUM REACTION
I love that you guys made a 40min video about 3 songs, love hearing you guys talk tho!! Also yess Bonnie, we stan a red moment ❤❤❤
i do think that, in crisis, Josh isn’t saying that everything is false, he says “only half true”. to me, this means that he’s taking ownership for the parts that did hurt her, but also saying that she embellished some stuff too.
Screaming when saw this notification as love Joshua Bassett and his music so much! And so excited for the Lana Del Rey breakdowns coming!
YOU GUYS HAVE TO REACT TO HIS NEW EP “SAD SONGS IN A HOTEL ROOM”!!!
I loved this reaction! Please also react to Joshua's new EP, 'Sad Songs In A Hotel Room'. It's soo good.
I love Bonny saying “yeah but he’s a man” PREACH 😂 love your videos as always, love to see more artists and your opinions on them 🥰
3 minutes in and I'm already excited, pls react to Gracie Abrams' This Is What It Feels Like, she calls it a project since she doesn't want to have a debut album yet
Ooo id love if you could break down Lana’s discography especially Norman Rockwell it’s literally one of my most favourite albums of all time
you definitely have to react to his new song would you love me now, which is also very likely addressed to olivia
i think it's really unfair to go through this without knowing what he said about this album or what olivia said about hers. these songs were about many personal battles of his, & only one song was directly about her. olivia has said several times that some of the songs/lines are made up (like deja vu), while some were written in the heat of the emotions and so it seemed more intense and dramatic than reality (like good 4 u). their relationship was never public, and so she would have never thought anyone would think he's the ex, plus she mentioned on interviews that the people and specifics of her songs are not important and urged people to not focus on that. she spoke about it. if she were to speak about it giving names though, she would have confirmed the parties involved and it would've resulted in more hate, which is exactly what happened after sabrina released her song, cause she confirmed her and josh involvement that way. however when olivia was asked about sabrina's song and people's reaction, she said how she never submit to hate. she spoke about it.
Joshua has an album out now called "Sad Songs In A Hotel Room" I think you girls should listen to it, I think you'd like it. It shows a lot of his diversity and talks about some deep things that he's gone through in his life so far.
He actually released another EP last friday called Sad Songs in a Hotel Room (and a single back in february called doppleganger. He addresses his heart condition and sort of how he's still dealing with the aftermath of the drama.
I'm so curious about what Olivia writes about on her next album. She has played out this guys' narrative on the entire first album. I think all these people need to expand their horizons on their next albums.
it would be cool if you guys also checked out the music videos for crisis/secret/set me free !! :)
PLEASE react to his new EP Sad Songs in a Hotel Room! It's AMAZING!
you should definitely listen to the ep he dropped last week it's called sad songs in a hotel room and its just insane
Please, react to his new ep: "Sad Songs In a Hotel Room"! It's really good
i love listening to their commentary! now yall should react to his new ep sad songs in the hotel room, its so good!
I’m so happy you two did this! I usually dislike when people address the drama in videos but it’s so refreshing that you are truly empathizing with him and realizing that the sour narrative can have multiple interpretations, with neither of them being completely to blame. at the end of the day, they’re just two kids who fell in love and it didn’t work out 🤍
The folklore love triangle foreshadowed these events lol
definitely the best reaction to this ep that I've watched! love how you both go very in-depth with the lyrics and dont take sides, it feels refreshing!
you guys have to listen to his new ep sad songs in a hotel room. It is soooooo good and i think you guys would really love it
Olivia does sort of address who broke up with who once in traitor, she says: “And ain’t it funny how you ran to her the second that WE called it quits?”
ever since the "the drivers license drama", i will now and forever picture the folklore love triangle as josh, sabrina and olivia.
