Cate received an 8 minute standing ovation in Venice for this film. She is a legend of her time, most film critics agree to this. As an actress she is completely fearless, and loses herself in each role she plays. I see her on screen and marvel at her talent. She's mesmerising and so is her voice - rich, deep, resonant. What a combination of skills!

Why? The sorry was the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen. The average movie goer couldn’t even sit though the whole thing. Great acting is worthless when the script is terrible. Most pretentious piece of garbage made in decades. FAIL. I want my money and time back. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

I've never seen anything like this movie. The script blew my mind - tying music, identity, and art - and the discourse around ego, cancellation, and value of beauty - brilliant. Cate Blanchett was compelling, mesmerizing, brilliant, and pioneering. No one else could have pulled this off at this level of excellence. Bravo, Maestro.

While the movie does indeed tie music, identity, art, ego, cancellation, and beauty together, I'm not really sure it actually *says* much about it that is so thought-provoking of interesting. Thinking about the film itself is more interesting than what is *in* the film.

I have seen a trend lately, to going back to ambiguous trailers, giving you a a taste of the movie without spoiling it. Giving the audience a chance to go and see a movie in the theatre, knowing what they saw, was not only compelling but intriguing, without knowing the overall story and I am loving every second of it. Count me in for this one.

Cate Blanchett is a true artist. Her filmography is so diverse. She is a master at the more serious roles, but isn’t afraid to dive into comedy. She is so well rounded and it’s not often an actor can play different genres so well!

Having seen the film I can assure, you are in a treat for master class acting from Cate Blanchett. She completely operates on different level any actors would dare dream of. This is a nuanced character study that will nothing but astound you. Cate Blanchett is sure shot lock for win Best actress next year. Have not seen any performance that has surpassed her this year, male or female.
If you had to compare, she's mixture of Daniel day lewis in 'There will be blood' and Natalie Portman in 'Black Swan' but more subtle yet layered performance, that's impossible to ignore. I get why Todd Field had written this script for Ms Blanchett. There's no one but only Blanchett can pull this off. I can not imagine someone beating her for the Oscar. In fact her acting goes even beyond getting recognised with a golden trophy. This performance will be remembered in cinema history being one of the best if not the best.

Incredible film. And as a former classical pianist, the amount of research in the classical music world was so seamless and astounding to me. When she was explaining a Bach prelude to a student, it was exactly how a pianist studies Bach using voicing and dialogue. I was amazed at the deep references of an obscure composer Kalinnikov, the reference of atonality, and her conducting style very in the style of Bernstein (which there are documentaries of Bernstein conducting Mahler). Such a damn good film

Cate Blanchett is one of the finest actress of her generation, in the same level as other living actresses like Meryl Streep, Glenn Close and Frances McDormand. She's a chameleon in her movies, when she acts, you really don't see Cate be like "look at me I'm an actress yeay", no, she literally became the person that she's playing, she dissapeared to the role. According to the director, this movie only works if Cate accepted the role, the role was meant for Cate and honestly seeing this trailer already, Cate is definitely gonna give another career best performance

I hope I can see it soon! I was in band/orchestra in HS as well as seeing some actual orchestras. I've been enjoying Nodame Contabile for over for 15+ years. I enjoy dramas that feature the orchestra not being just another character, accent, or theme, but being more.
Music drives our emotions in film, but to see it actually actively affect or reflect the character or situation. In a sense, it's a baring of the soul.

*TODD FIELD'S STATEMENT IN A RECENT INTERVIEW “This script was written for one artist, Cate Blanchett,” Field said in a director’s statement. “Had she said no, the film would have never seen the light of day. Filmgoers, amateur and otherwise, will not be surprised by this. After all, she is a master supreme. Even so, while we were making the picture, the superhuman-skill and verisimilitude of Cate was something truly astounding to behold. She raised all boats. The privilege of collaborating with an artist of this caliber is something impossible to adequately describe. In every possible way this is Cate’s film.”*

Every role Cate Blanchett has done seems like the role he was born to play. She won her second Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival thanks to this movie, so yeah a potential third Oscar is coming for her 🙌🙌

OK. I watched the trailer. Apparently, it went miles over my heard. Could someone maybe just tell me what this movie is about. All I got was Cate Blanchett, conductor, some sort of struggle.

If the goal of this preview is to tell me that the main character is a composer, it succeeded... but I still have no idea WTF this is about or why I should watch it.

I want to launch into a farrago of superlatives. But they all seem banal and superficial. It's beyond nuance - like being confined to words in trying to describe the emotional melancholy you experience from a Chopin nocturne. Nothing you can dig up in the English lexicon can even hint at Cate Blanchett's jaw dropping skills as an actor. In an era of ubiquitous mediocrity, artificial "intelligence" and overwhelming expedience, that the raw ingredients for this character could be aggregated, refined and perfected to this level of performance by Blanchett is haunting. A masterpiece.

A comeback to cinema by Todd Field and what a bravura performance by Cate Blanchett. Masterclass. Indeed a 3rd Oscar for the legend.

Was hoping to catch my first Movie screen viewing in a long time with this film. No showings in my city. That said, I find my self excited by the cinematography, editing, and of course the acting. I tend to watch Cate Blanchett in her last couple of roles, which were fire, as the actress and less so the character she was playing. Guilty. This one though really seems like a good character I would like to invest in and forget that I'm watching an intelligent, sexy, and personable actress, as much as I do enjoy some Cate Blanchett, but this looks like a raw character piece. Can't wait to see this, but I will sit on my patience if I have to to catch the right viewing. 🥂
