  • Жарияланды 2022 ж. 29 Қыр.
  • Video from the U.S. Coast Guard shows a Miami-based aircrew in a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter rescue four people, a dog and three cats from an area around Sanibel Island in southwest Florida on Thursday.

As someone who grew up on the coast, the Coast Guard doesn't get the recognition they deserve. They do many heroic tasks with little to no recognition. Thank you to the men and women of the Coast Guard for all you do.

@G@n@21 They don't really consider them to be at the bottom. It's all just jokes. It's due to their very small size and the fact that they're under the dept. of homeland security. But it's all just paling around.

@KM Donate all your money to bail out the rich. You don't understand their "need". They are very needy rich people with multimillion dollar mansions. Help save them all. I hope you are happy donating your hard earned money to supporting their beach front lifestyle. How much did you donate to them? Let everyone here know how compassionate you are.

@Daryl Kwasniewski many elderly people won't leave despite the danger of the situation. During the Paradise Fire in California a mother and her adult daughter had the fire at their backyard and the mother refused to leave cause she didn't get an evaluation order. The daughter had to make the hard decision to leave her behind and took the pets with her. The mother and house burned to the ground.

@exploring life True, but heck we believe men can have babies now...we should understand the mentally ill and people with Joe Biden's brain can't often think for themselves...the reason why so many seniors move to God's waiting room as I call Florida is because it's affordable...and still close enough for their families on the East Coast to want to visit.

@Green Lawn Farm do you live there? Have you ever even been there? I grew up in Fort Myers and visited Sanibel every weekend. Many of these homes are owned by elderly folks who worked their entire lives to afford homes like this. Many people inherited these homes from their parents and have been there for decades. The island has been hit by other hurricanes without having this level of flooding. The flooding is from the unprecedented storm surge which wasn’t predicted until just a few hours before it hit. People have lost their entire livelihoods, homes, businesses. Show some respect.

They did not need to be rescued. They were stubborn and defied the evacuation orders and deserve no help. Even the emergency services and fire fighters left the island. They can butcher and cook their dog for food if they get hungry. But their maid service was probably smart enough to evacuate, so they don't know how to cook.

EDIT: Also, her grandson was very helpful in getting the Coast Guard to notice them. He apparently went on the roof, and used something to reflect the sun to get the Coast Gaurd’s attention as they were flying around looking for people. That’s how the Coast Guard spotted them so quickly. Great job all around Grandson! 👏🏼🇺🇸❤️

@Michelle Milonas Hilo rescue ops are inherently dangerous. And, yes, I have evacuated for a hurricane when told to do so BECAUSE of my experience of being involved with one too many search and rescue missions during my Coast Guard career. We loved our jobs, but all of us understood that stupid, selfish people put us and others who really needed to be rescued, and not because of their stupidity, in harms way. There were dozens of school buses to take elderly out of the area, but most of those buses remained empty. SMH.😠 If you ever need a first responder to save you and not because of your stupidity, take a back seat so the first responders can respond to the stupid people while you lie dying.

    • Michelle Milonas
Michelle Milonas 2 ай бұрын +3

@Lydia also, by the time the evacuation order was put out the highways were clogged instantly. Tornados touched down on a clogged up highway because so many people were all trying to evacuate. This grandma and her grandson were safer staying in the most dangerous part of the storm than getting on the highway and risking that. Tell me you’ve never had to make the decision between stay through a storm that might kill you and leave and risk getting caught on the highway in the storm that will then definitely kill you without actually telling me .

@Lydia you realize they would’ve still had to come out and check AFTER the storm was over whether they found anyone or not, right?
& that the first responders don’t start coming out until the storm goes away, the guys that are really risking their lives doing rescues are the Cajun Navy while they get told to go away because it’s too dangerous.

I’ve vacationed on Sanibel multiple times, and my heart is breaking for that community… it’s so beautiful there, and it’s difficult seeing the damage.
They will have a long road ahead just because of the damaged causeway. So sad.
I can’t wait to go back to support that beautiful island and its businesses.

Just because its beautiful does not justify its existence. We all knew this was coming so we can’t act shocked. This is literally gonna keep happening so buckle up. The time for being “shocked” is over. Climate change is real and this is what it looks like.

@breukelyn bee and would you put the word smart next to that decision? Would you put the word wise next to that decision? Would you put the word prudent next to that decision? Is the answer is no no no then they should have go go go what piece of junk do they have in their house that's worth a person's life? A flat screen a Vitamix a computer, only you can answer that question says smokey the Bear

@Iambriangregory my family in Tampa told me that the officials try very hard to get homeowners living near the coast to leave before these storms arrive but they refuse to leave. They are concerned that people will burglarize their property while they are gone.

The grandson is an unbelievable young person. Flew down to be with grandma. Said she wasn’t going to be alone though this. Wow that’s powerful. God bless the US Coast Guard. An amazing crew of men in women who selflessly serve in times of tragedy. How professional and caring they are. While the sadness of the hurricane will be felt for a long time what gives me hope is there are people like the Grandson and the guardsmen who exist in this world to help others.
