The lighthouse keepers at the Butt of Lewis did weather observations and the Met Office at Stornoway Airport did inspections occasionally. The keepers have gone and the Met Office closed with the March of technology.
I will be on Harris in July this year and this stunning footage makes me want to get packed and head there right now. As a scot I wholeheartedly support The John Muir Trust in all they do. Beautiful music btw.
Great drone video Kale Kale. I visited Lewis & Harris years ago in the 70's, unfortunately never got to see all those fantastic beaches. I guess maybe the weather could have been a little rough while I was there, nevertheless I remember enjoying the beautiful scenery. I also remember driving to the very windy Butt of Lewis, but it wasn't too cold.
Thank you, Kale Kale, the filming of these islands of Scotland is awesome, with your drone. Your choice of music reflects the melancholy of its atmosphere merging with the beauty of unspoiled nature, and a history that is impressive, of dwellers on these islands arriving from the sea, finding themselves on pristine soil and rock weathered by the elements. As an Anglophile, I'm sure to visit these Outer Hebrides of Scotland one day, enjoying their beauty while cycling on my e-bike. I do hope there's a YHA hostel around somewhere, to be used as a base. Or caravans, shepherd huts, somewhere on them.
You must visit the Highlands and Islands of Scotland as they are beautiful beyond belief, but sadly they are not 'unspoiled nature', far from it. They show the results of 5,000 years of bad farming and the destructive power of deer and sheep. Great efforts are being made in some places to reverse the damage and you may like to support the John Muir Trust which does much of the work.
Really Beutiful video Kale lovely and well done. It looks as though you where there at the same time I was, late August. From one of the clips it looks as though you got the drone in the air when the sea harr came into west Harris. I couldn't get a connection that night and I still curse myself 😪
I go to Harris most years..its great footage Just a little concerned about the legal implication..as I was under the impression Drones are not that welcome🤔
