I appreciate that he briefly discussed criticisms of carbon trading, but the root of our environmental crisis goes much farther than economic systems can address. I can't speak to the figures, and I'd love to believe these incentives curb emissions -- but it only enables (and indeed, caters to) the same corporate greed underlying ecological destruction. I think, though, that it may be more effective to suggest a change in the way we think about the environment: away from capitalist/market interests towards genuine compassion, equity, and preservation ideals. Positioning carbon caps as a solution is almost a distraction from what's really important, suggesting (to some) that carbon capping is a fully sufficient response to emissions, and that no further action, systemic change, or ideological change is necessary.
First you have to prove that climate change is man made which their is absolutely no consensus on. Then you have to have a model which to this date every 'climate scientists' model has been slightly worse then the weatherman.
I have so more questions than I did before. What about all the pollution by the government, police and military? Where is the proof that this is working?
Carbon credits are going to be a mew form of corporation tax & force business abroad & cause unemployment in capital intensive industries (that employ mainly poor people)
there should be per capita carbon units for each per person born on the planet.. so there will be uniform distribution of wealth as well as control of carbon emissions
By providing economic incentives within a market-based system, many believe that carbon trading is the most effective way to fight climate change, but others argue that it will only delay society's transition away from fossil fuels. CNBC's Tom Chitty explains.
@Marc Aussie So the government, corporations and military will continue to pollute as the largest polluters in the world but a family in rural areas won't be able to afford to drive to the grocery store?
@Marc Aussie it'd be like paying more, to downgrade, or paying less to upgrade.. Which prefer? If less is more the more is less. Sounds like an even-out. Maybe the trees will stop dropping heavy branches on us and trying to flatten us,.

Well we know that we cannot shut down industries so carbon credits can play an important role in this: 1. It will allow poor countries to earn by setting up a setup of reducing carbon like by growing trees etc that will reduce that amount of carbon which a specific industry may produce so that industry will pay that country/person for this. 2. Gradually rates of carbon credits will increase as industries are making damage and environment is detiorating so they will try to shift to green solutions.
if we can capture co2.. modify it into methane, oxygen and water.. come on billionaires.. we need that in every city.. we should reduce oil as well.. hydrogen and methane seems promising.. we can use cassava roots to reduce plastic bags..
So it’s kind of like when the rich used to give money to the church to get into heaven 550 years ago no matter what they did? And the poor were punished because they didn’t have to money or wealth to “buy” forgiveness.
So I can plant a bunch of trees and then sell credits? Please make a video on exactly how one can sell credits, like who determines that my trees are worth X$s of credit and what is the exchange I can sell it on ?
you need land. they value carbon credit reduction by acre of land as well as the crops and methods used to grow the crops. planting trees isn't the only way to get carbon credits.

Fancy term for still allowing Carbon emissions, India, Brazil invested heavily under Kyoto protocol to reduce emissions with costlier technologies rather than development friendly fossil fuel now they say carbon credits earned earlier Kyoto regime it won't be counted under new Paris regime.
@Dhrubajyoti Raja dude India per capita emission is well below global average. The Indians are not responsible for pollution. The other half of global population in the west are the major polluters.
we have 0.04% CO2 total by volume left in the atmosphere that every plant on Earth relies on two breeds for life if they don't breathe they die like animals do but in a different way is it your hope that we kill every plant on the Earth because when the European Union cuts the present number in half there will not be enough carbon dioxide left for anyting plant the living breathe now we have dropped it down to this level it was much higher when everything was green but we're getting to Green anymore we're getting pretty brown and dead shot from space all the Sea algae is dead already do you know what that means does anybody know what that means no nobody has a fucking clue what that means so I'll explain it to at least you before all is stupid ETA ship started back in 1971 Earth had 23% oxygen in the atmosphere now we're down to 19.5 because there's not enough goddamn fucking plants giving off oxygen for us to breathe is because we don't have enough God damn it. You just left to stay alive hardly when you kill off all the packing plants there's nothing left to do but watch each other right away I'm getting goddamn sick and tired of hearing this fucking stupid bull fucking shit
have you taken time to research the volume of carbon dioxide in the total atmosphere of the Earth. It takes about 2 and 1/2 minutes to get that number or would you like me to do that for you and show you the link but you'll have to be able to push the button I can't do that from my point and then you'll have to understand what it means to get the full impact after total brainwashing that is causing you not to be aware as a real danger that's been done to us so I'll try and if you possibly can understand we don't have much time left at all so if you can understand what this will tell you please spread it to as many people as possible as the elite are trying to do something very terrible to all of us since 1971 www.atmo.arizona.edu/students/courselinks/fall15/atmo336s2/lectures/sec1/composition.html our total green house gasses is 0.04 of 1% this is the total amount that every plant on earth relies on to support all plant life .. and our green house is not very green anymore as most all Ocean Sea algae has already died causing our oxygen level to drop from 23% down to 19.5% is all the oxygen we have left I want to drop down to 18 we all pass out am I get down to Seventeen point five percent we're fucking suffocated to death now the stupid bastards want to cut what we have left of carbon dioxide down to 55% that will kill every fucking God damn plant on the whole goddamn fucking planet not very fucking smart don't you think
Well India is just Investing...And 90% of them are still not Operational.... That's why India has the Highest number of Polluted Cities in the World...Also India is building more and more refineries to boost Oil Industry....So Don't brag....India is still much behind.....
It doesn't even sound great in theory. If one company sells their excess quota. Another one may buy it thus the amount of emissions are the same only source is changing. Also it may be much more expensive to reduce carbon emissions that just buying others quotas.
No. Not exactly. There has been a net movement of funds from polluter to a company investing in either greener sources of energy or they implement efficiencies so they don't need their full quota. There is also a new incentive for the polluter to reduce emissions as it is now costing them more to pollute.
The cap and trade helps reduce carbon emissions through quantity, therefore, the rate of change probably control by each individual country, or international groups of country. In theory, the ceiling function would be like f(x)= a(x*whatever) & a < 0. So, I think it's a incredible way for the scientist and environmentalist to set the input. Practically, the rich always find their way to cheat, either through carbon tax, cap and trade.
the idea is to reduce that total quota available over time. so yeah at the start it doesn't do much but as the quota is reduced further the carbon price will become higher and higher until the alternative greener way becomes more cost effective
Who sets the emissions caps on the polluters? It needs to be done without political or business interference and I am really skeptical about that. For example, giving a carbon allowance to countries with actual low per capita emission is a way for other countries to buy fictitious allowances. The low emission country would argue they have "the right" to have their caps in line with industrialised countries. None of which helps the planet in the long run.
It's called economic incentives. If a company can save money by acting in a way that reduces both their costs and reduces emissions into the environment then regardless of whether the corporation cares about the environment, it still achieves the environmental outcome.
It's different from a tax. Companies that cut their emissions BELOW the necessary levels get financial advantages here - so there is a bigger incentive to making those cuts. Failure to reduce emissions is associated with a cost, but it's not a one-way relationship. The taxman--> will become a

It means you can keep polluting if you can afford it. Hence why EU plans to gradually increase the price
I like how they use nuclear plants, who have ZERO carbon footprint, as part of the visuals. 🙄

what about China?
First you need to understand how to write CO2 correctly at timestamp 0:30.
A revenue from carbon trading should use for environment project.
Nope. That revenue goes straight into the pockets of people who came up with such a stupid idea.
if we can capture co2..
modify it into methane, oxygen and water..
come on billionaires.. we need that in every city..

Methane is a greenhouse gas, at least 30 times more dangerous as CO2.

if gold, silver, palladium, platinum, copper, and many other elements trade as commodities or through derivatives (futures), then carbon should too.
There is no model that can ascertain agreed context terms nor a guesstimate on the 'science' part of climate change.
