Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

Look, this is a pretty good point, but I think that in the grand scheme of things, you've failed to consider that the Fallen will continue to claw at the walls of our city, unless we strike them down. Beneath the ruins of the Cosmodrome, in the shadow of an old colony ship, We've located the House of Devil's lair and the high servitor feeding them their strength. We must destroy this machine god, and send their souls screaming back to hell.

You perfectly explain the new light and returning player experience. It truly is a deep hole bungie has dug. I still don't know how I got my girlfriend into gaming with destiny being her first fps game. I think the only way I was able to do that was recommending she play destiny 1 first and she became captivated and interested in the world. Unfortunately she missed playing the original 3 campaigns

Incredibly fair review. The new player experience is atrocious and has been for a long time but at its core this game is a blast with friends. It’s interesting to hear you talk about how polished it is. A lot of veteran players are constantly ragging on Bungie for various (non-game breaking) bugs when in reality other games seem to have it much worse. Maybe goes to show how spoiled veteran destiny 2 players have been

As someone who hasn’t played Destiny 2 since Shadowkeep, I’m finding I’ve really started to enjoy the game again. Playing with friends definitely makes the game, and I was just as lost as you were when I came back, Act Man. vsm1 2 ай бұрын

TenthSgtSnipes, I don't know what "they" need, but I personally don't need any "up to speed". I'm here for the story, I want to see and experience all the stuff they released since I left, not a short recap and then being booted into mindless grinding of the same late game content.

    • Valkyrie
      Valkyrie 2 ай бұрын

@JBzucc You are really not alone in that regard. I remember someone making a post on the destiny 2 subreddit. It was some new light just going on a very long winded rant/explanation about their experience. Explaining, ultimately, that they couldn't bring themselves to care nor understand what they were doing in the game. Even after listening to seemingly every lore video they could find, they *still* couldn't bring themselves to care. Because nearly every conversation in-game and cutscene would keep throwing names, events, terms in ways that were clearly meant for people playing since day 1 release. And that, even during cutscenes with 'Crow', they felt like they were just a side character but were being treated like the main character in the sense that they were doing all the heavy lifting.
In my opinion, there's no way the devs can fix the new player experience. It just won't be enough because their current development framework will never support it. I've said it before and I'll say it again - The idea of 'live story telling' in games (what destiny 2 is being treated as with their 'seasons') is a bad game development design that will always be doomed to fail.

The new player experience is rough. So rough that when Xur abducted new players and dropped them into Dares of Eternity, veteran players would drop their own levels just to hop in and rescue them. Eyes up Guardian, the New Lights need rescuing and we can’t rely on Bungie for help.

Thank you for making this video, hopefully Bungie sees this and realized how terrible the new (and returning) player experience is. Crucial systems like a structured campaign, clean UI, and clear direction are all but forgotten and lost in this game. If you don't play this game exclusively you will get beyond overwhelmed. Also I feel like Destiny 2 is becoming more and more like a mobile gacha game that (unlike a gacha game) takes waaay too much of your time.

Not even. Destiny is incredible now and one of the best live service games to be a part of. The main problem with Destiny right now is to become a part of it in the first place. They add and remove so much content you miss out on a lot of stuff or just get confused with all the new stuff. IHE said it best. The game boils down to "You just had to be there".

The absolute major pitfall for this game is the “new light” experience. I have nearly 3k hours on destiny 2 and I absolutely love this game. I tried to get my partner through it and they just got super overwhelmed and don’t really understand what’s going on because there’s just too much shit happening. @JD M8, I've played both wow and ff14 at a hardcore level (first casual ofc) and both do a much better job at introducing you to characters, stories and game mechanics. In fact, FF14 is still to this day - even tho I had to quit due to irl commitments - my favourite game. Amazing storytelling, character building, world, hardcore content as well as casual content....while still respecting your time as an adult, and being absolutely welcoming with gear and catching you up if you take a break and come back. Yoshi P is probably the best mmo dev out there who genuinely loves what he's created and respects the players and takes their opinions into consideration. Destiny + Bungie are definitely NOT that.

Dude... You and I both know that with the addition of Lightfall, nothing is going to be added to the new player experience. At this point, new content is just an added expense of the new players will to continue.
The game is overwhelming as shit if you don't know what's going on! Don't get me wrong, I love destiny. I always have; I am what the Destiny community considers a...🙂 *Puts glasses on* 😎 - D1 vet - Flex intended... but man I can not imagine how confusing it would be to play the game for the first time, having no knowledge about when, why or who the hell is talking to me.
For example, The Exodus crash strike... Why the f$#@ is this still in the game! Out of context, the conversation with Cayde and Failsafe makes no damn sense! "Who is this person?" I have heard people ask in random fireteam chats. "Why is he acting odd and sounds exactly like Nathan Fillion?"
I could continue ranting and rambling, but there's no point...

Heres a bright assed idea Bungie don't cut out DLC people paid for for starters. Still even then the game relies on you flying (yet not flying) your vessel from place to place rinse and repeating the same fucking maps forward and back with variations of the mobs. Don't forget to buy that season pass or the fomo will kill you also research the webs find out what the god rolls are on your own time as for story theres youtube. To me the game sucks in its entirety I do not see the story being any better in the witch queen than within forsaken instead the lucent hive has proven one thing is that the guardians are inept if they couldn't have spotted 1 brainless lucent hive in generations since the ghosts were released by the traveler years upon years ago.

I love Destiny, I've played it for several years now and keep coming back every season. My problem is that my favorite activites are the "endgame" Grandmaster Nightfalls. In order to do this, you need to either spend all your free time on the game playing old missions over and over to earn the pinnacle drops to level your gear up, or just do a mindless monotonous grind killing endless mobs to get your seasonal artifact power boost high enough to hit the minimum level to play the GM's.
I'm sure I would also love all the raids as well, but I'm lucky to have 1 or 2 friends playing the game, I have basically zero chance of getting a group of 6 to even attempt that stuff. The last time I tried to do a random discord LFG raid group it took about 90 minutes to even get a full group together, then some idiot in the group kept bricking whatever mechanic we were trying to complete over and over until I finally called it quits after almost 3 1/2 hours. When you have a limited amount of time to play, and you're solo, you basically have zero chance.
The Destiny 2 playerbase is either people who play the game 40 hours a week, get every raid/dungeon completion weekly on all 3 characters and have an ungodly power level... or the casual player who is level 10 on the season pass and has no way to actually access a lot of the best content. The last few times I've tried to play the game, I've logged on... took one look at the planetary map with 29 choices on which mission to play, and just quit right back out. It's so strange to love a game so much but yet have no desire to actually play it when you want to.

Being a new player or even a returning player is not easy. Lot of people leave the game because of this. (And this is after they improved the New Light experience😅) There is a LOT of problem with Destiny, but still it is a unique game. Thank for the video, great work! Eyes up Guardian. o/

Destiny has definitely grown a lot and has gotten better as more and more DLC's and updates come out. The learning curve is pretty ugly and they introduce a lot of things without properly explaining how it works or what you should do to get it to work the way you like it to. I think when Lightfall comes out Destiny will be near its growth cycle at least I hope so. I wish you luck in trying to figure out how to get those elemental fragments to work in your favor.

Technically D2 mostly had everything before the Beyond Light expansion. I started playing again back in Sept 2020. The OG campaign was still around, the only thing I missed were the previous seasonal stories. Whenever Saint-14 came into the picture, and the war with the Vex and realities. Otherwise, yes.... you definitely missed a lot in between that time until now 😆
There was the Matrix style season called Season of the Splicer with Mithrax, where the darkness nearly consumed the Last City. Season of the Lost - a precursor to The Witch Queen campaign. Season of the Risen where the Hive were able to wield the Light. And just recently my personal fave, Season of the Haunted. Basically where lot of characters face their inner demons. The voice acting in those moments are TOP NOTCH. Now its basically pirates and treasure LOL
The Lightfall campaign looks to be really promising too. So getting overwhelmed after Beyond Light... I really don't blame you 😆

I've been playing Destiny pretty regularly since D1, so the new user experience isn't something I have ever experienced. I will say, it is one of the more rewarding games I have ever played, especially with a group of friends. I have a fairly large group that has played together the entire time, and even when someone takes a break to play something else for a while, there is always a group coming back. It makes things likes raids, dungeons and trials very easy to jump in to.
With that said, when Destiny 2 feels like a job (and it will) take a nice break. Don't play for a season or 2, and when you come back, it will feel fresh and enjoyable again. Don't let the fomo get in the way - nearly all of us that come back after a few months, gain the same weapons and armor relatively quickly.

I've honestly considered starting Destiny 2. I'm so bored of shooters nowadays because none of them feel rewarding or worth my time and investment (Halo Infinite REALLY killed it for me). At least with Destiny 2 there seems to be an infinite and rewarding grind with expansive customization and unique gameplay when it comes to FPS'. Sure, I may have to study the Wiki for like an hour, but we'll see how it goes.

Hey thanks for making this, it's nice to have a kind of unbiased peek back into the game. I'm always quietly curious how things are over there. I quit the game shorty before the expansion that came after Shadowkeep (which I honestly cannot remember the name of at the moment). And I liked the core gameplay but my friend group was falling off the game because the light level increases were getting hard to keep up with for our casual pace (i.e. play like 6-8 hours a week). Then they started talking about vaulting content (that we payed for) and all the sunsetting nonsense and that was the last straw for me.

Well, the difficult thing about D2 is for starters, it's a sequel in and of itself. No you don't have to have played D1 to enjoy D2 but the basics of the world, culture, enemies and the deep ocean of lore that surrounds the destiny universe is important. Not necessarily to the gameplay aspect, but if you throw out any first person shooters design or style they're all very similar. So destiny leans into abilities and story telling which is a major factor. This combined with years of content makes the game feel overwhelming. I always suggest people look up tutorial vids as well as lore videos. Because with any MMO in it's time, being dropped into it feels overwhelming! There's so much to do and master. Sadly I think some people struggle with the very aspect of joining a game later in it's lifespan, and perceive the gap too large to close between themselves and vet players.
