When his mom runs out to hug him with the confetti falling its literally a storybook moment. All the times she posted his videos on youtube promoting her son to finally get the recognition for his talent. That moment is too perfect. Love everything about this audition. Good luck Avery!!

He's 21, but plays like a 50 year old master that has honed his craft to give sounds a soul. Well deserved golden buzzer. Hope he becomes as big as the soul in his playstyle.

@Timmy Tenor it is mindless if you don’t know what you’re doing. It’s like listening to someone playing a blues scale just wiggling their fingers. Avery is using a pentatonic scale and he knows how to use it to make it sound good. But he doesn’t use any other type of vocabulary other than that. If he wanted to sound really good with pentatonics is to play pentatonic patterns. If Avery played pentatonic patterns as well as Chad LB, I would say Avery a top player. But he only goes up and down the pentatonic scale. I understand jazz more than you know bud.

@Gunga Demon it’s not mindlessly at all haha. If you don’t understand music that’s ok just say that. Go back to playing fortnite little kid.

As a musician who knows how to play the sax, the TONE of that first note was pure butter. It was so clear and the tonality was melting me into my seat. The articulation, the intonation, the runs, the crescendos and decrescendos, the vibrato, the FEELING, EVERYTHING about this from a musical standpoint was absolutely phenomenal and only a handful of truly great saxophone players sound like this gentleman did here. I want more

I've listened to a lot of music in my life, rock.. jazz..blues.. and everything in between, and I've heard a lot of saxophone players but this young man has one of the smoothest most refined sounds I've heard in my life. The way he plays that instrument is like his breathing, it's so natural and is almost like it's a part of him. I can see Avery going places. And I want to be there listening to every note of what he's willing to give. I'll be keeping my ears open for what comes next.

He and that instrument is becoming one in a mysterious and mesmerizing way and all you think is that it has to be played exactly this way. Hats off for this guy! ❤️

Terry Crew's speeches are always something. At least to me.
    With the world taekwondo
"You maybe cant get the golden medal, but i will give you something golden"
    And now with avery
"You have a big brother called Terry and he's got your back"
    Nice speeches arent it?

I played sax thru middle school and high school. I just want to tell anyone who might not realize, he hit 3 octaves in this audition. The higher end altissimo notes are not easy, and he played it flawlessly. Extreme talent, extreme energy, lungs of an elephant, and kid, no one cares about the air in your voice anymore because you just sang thru your sax bud. You're more than good enough. I'd say you can give Kenny g a run for his money. I hope he sees this too, cuz I have no doubt he'd wanna meet ya

I would love to see him play with the Saturday Night Live band on an SNL episode or one of the late night show bands. He doesn't just play the instrument, the instrument becomes and extension of him. There are people who can play it and then there are people who put their heart into it.

Go listen to Charlie Parker, Michael Brecker, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Chris Potter, Joel Frahm, Paul Desmond, Art Pepper, Eric Alexander, Vincent Herring, George Coleman, Colman Hawkins, Max Ionata, Saemus Blake, or Cannon Ball Adderley. These are the masters. Sure Avery is talented but to say he's the best is absurd. All Avery does harmonically is go up or down a pentatonic scale. That's what all beginners use when they first start to improvise because every note in the scale sounds good over its relative chord. The masters use be-bop scales, pentatonic patterns (way harder than the pentatonic scale), chord tones, and four note groupings. But most people can learn how to use those while improvising. What makes players a master at it is how effortless it sounds when it comes out of the horn. I would say Avery is not even top 1000 in the country.

I’ve watched this a dozen times in the few days since stumbling upon it.
    Each time I’ve sobbed.
If AGT had never or never again touches humanity as it just did here, it is all worth every penny!
Being bullied or maliciously ignored by your peers is a level of toxicity that can and does not only scar your heart, it threatens to bury your self esteem to a deep level that is harrowing and haunting. This must sound overly melodramatic, but I know.
