Just saw the premiere last night, it’s definitely terrifying. I love a good horror movie so you know it’s terrifying when I’m using my hat to cover my face then lifting up my hat every once in a while😅 to actually know what’s going on. Definitely puts you on your feet and on edge every second

There's things in this movie that I know are going to freak me out. Especially people appearing in your home with menacing grins, or having your face grabbed. Those two alone give me chills, and I'm not even sure why.

@Snuggie The Goblin It’s funny you mentioned movies directed by Ari Aster, as I feel this movie tried to adapt to some concepts he’d had in his movies (can’t go in-depth without spoilers). Maybe it’s because I’m desensitised but the death scenes weren’t overly gory in my opinion - the only thing I was frightened by, naturally, were the jump scares (and I’ve never been a fan of them, seeing as I feel they’re cheap; that’s what thing I like about Ari Aster - he doesn’t rely on them to scare you).

This is the first good modern horror film I’ve seen in a long time. The lighting and unsettling cinematics in a lot of the scenes are great. The acting in this is also very good helping to drive home the fear and intensity. Definitely worth a watch!

her breaking down in the car, after she stabbed that guy (in her head). Got to me 😢🤧 You can tell she was mentally & physically scared & exhausted. The realism in that scene is amazing. Her breakdowns throughout the film felt real. Almost making you feel as of you where with Rose.
    10/10 Good Film

SMILE terrifyingly plays with tropes of trauma and suicide wrapping them in a traumatic tense way I’ve never felt before.
It plays with the audience, a scene builds but doesn’t necessarily go the direction your expecting, but it’s always terrifying.

One of the biggest joys I've gotten since we started showing this movie was standing in front of the auditorium entrance and greeting the customers as they leave with the biggest, creepiest grin that my face could muster. *MOVIE REVIEW*
I have to start by saying this, I was pleasantly surprised by this film. It replaces the oversaturated gore horror films with jump scares (and there are plenty) that are very well done. The story follows a psychiatrist after she witnesses one of her patients dying and the events about that death. This movie was pretty much a mash up of different horror films (The Ring, It Follows, The Conjuring) rolled into one. The concept of the movie has been done before, but with some clever shots and a knockout performance by the lead, #Smile stands on its own. Fun fact: Sosie Bacon is Kevin Bacon’s and Kyra Sedgwick’s daughter.
The movie does have moments where it drags just a little. And I wish they followed up on some of the backstory they introduced about the universal plot, but overall this movie was entertaining and downright creepy. A great movie to kick off the Halloween season. 🎃 👻
    Rating: B

Just saw this last night, overall very good movie. Tons of jump scares, however the ending I don’t know what they could’ve done better. But, it felt like something was missing, almost like it was rushed. The movie itself, was very terrifying had me on the edge of my seat for the majority of it. Some of the jump scares genuinely caught me off guard, which was a surprise aha. I usually am able to tell when every jump scare is gonna happen.
TLDR; good movie, could have had a better ending.

I just saw the early access and I got to say I loved this movie.
To describe this movie I’d say this movie is so Unoriginal that it became original.
It’s like the writers decided what if we make a movie using the best parts of other movies and even the bad parts but make them better.
I can imagine the writers thinking.
“Hmm let’s make a horror movie, ok so for the bases we’re gonna use that movie trope that’s been used 100 times “Horror Herpes” that’s someone passes it to you at the beginning and you have a few days till it gets you, like It Follows or the ring, except in 7 days we’re gonna say, ‘no more then a week, usually around 4 days’ now let’s get the gore from ‘final destination’, let’s sprinkle in the tension from ‘hereditary’, let’s get the horror comedy trope of the demon screwing with and trolling the lady non stop from ‘drag me to hell,’ let’s get the mystery and creepy atmosphere from the ring….. oh yeah you know that goofy smile thing from ‘truth or dare?’ Yeah let’s get that but actually make it creepy, oh and the sense of hopelessness from “Wes cravens They” and then have that chaotic finish from Evil dead.”
Instead of it being a mess they seemed to put it together just right like the cake your momma used to make as a kid and made a good horror film that left me satisfied and wanting to go back for seconds. Some don’t pass this up and come get that horror frosting that you crave.

I would even add in that some of the makers got some ideas from The Babadook because of how mental illness is framed as the real life horror that nobody else can see. Was a solid horror I thought.

I so want to see this but I feel like it's one of those rare ones that I shouldn't watch alone. Only problem is my partner hates horrors and I don't know anyone else who would want to see it. Fingers crossed it's on Netflix soon so I can at least watch it with someone in the house with me. 😅

The music in this movie was great, I liked the pace of a majority of it, and how you felt like you were going insane with the main character, and I liked the editing and camera work.
I just really wish they made the main character approach her mental issues with a more professional mindset, as she is literally a therapist. She should've taken those first hallucinations as a huge warning sign to at least take a break. By the time she set her home up with security from her paranoia, traumatized a little kid by giving him her dead cat that she couldn't even remember killing, lost sleep over these hallucinations, and felt the need to defend herself with a knife from these servere hallucinations, she should've accepted help, admitted herself into a mental asylum, or at the very least told the truth to her therapist so she could get the right medicine. Instead she was clueless during an unnecessary amount of this movie, and didn't take any warning signs as genuine issues until it was proven to be something paranormal. I also found the ending to be quite disappointing, because although it was a bit shocking, I think it was a bit upsetting for anyone like myself who has gone through anything traumatic, or experienced things like hallucinations, paranoia, etc, as it felt as if it was just telling it's viewers that you can't ever overcome such a thing. If they wanted a shocking ending, they should've made the main character approach this professionally like I stated before, making her attempt to fight it from the very start only to make her fail in a way. She should've admitted herself in a way, or attempted to fix these issues only to THEN find out it was something paranormal, as I feel like that would serve as a better plot, make the ending seem like more of an issue BECAUSE it's paranormal instead of making it seem like you can't overcome illnesses, and making the character herself more reasonable and realistic as a trained therapist. They still could've included many creepy and disturbing scenes with this, and I think it would be a better plot twist for her to think she's fixed things with professional help or medicine, only to find out it wasn't really a result of mental illnesses, but something paranormal, making the beginning patient sort of foreshadow this plot.
Other than these issues with the plot, I enjoyed it quite a bit, though a couple of the scenes were cheesy. I especially liked the camera work and music, as it really added to this experience. If they could do anything different with the editing, I'd just prefer if there were less unnecessary jumpscares between scenes, as they felt really out of place and ruined the tension between a lot of it.

One thing I liked about this movie though was how it was different from most movies where the person confronts their guilt or fear and the monster dies or something cheesy like that. In this movie she confronted her guilt and the monster didn't care at all

Some parts will make you jump yes, more of a mind fuk then scary. Worth watching? yes. It will make you think and keep you engaged in the film. Solid film
    Side note tho
In the process of making movies they need to create commercial scenes that won't be included in the film because having your best jump scared repeated on commercial absolutely ruins that anticipated moment or a moment ppl won't see coming.

ive watched gore and shit like that so the blood part of the story didnt really bother me. but the jumpscares were so perfectly timed and unpredictable that u would genuinely jump in ur seat, yes ud be able to tell based on the atmosphere that a jumpscares coming up but definiteyyyy not what kind. usually the movie would trick u into thinking a jumpscares coming up but then when ur like 'oh, no jumpscare' is when the jumpscare actually comes up LOL
